41  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Two Scarves -- Basic but Pretty! on: September 25, 2006 11:29:57 AM
After completing my first scarf ever a couple of weeks ago, I cannot stop knitting!!  Here are two new scarves I finished last week.  They are both Christmas presents -- hooray for early starts!  To make up for the lack of sophistication, since they are both just garter stitch, I bought really pretty yarn!  Tongue

for my bf's mom:

42  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / First Project!! Basic Ribbed Scarf on: September 17, 2006 03:19:17 PM
That's right, my first knitted, finished project EVER!  This is almost my first post ever, too, though I've been nosing around Craftster for ages.  Anyway, I finally had the time to teach myself to knit, so I went for the Ribbed for Her Pleasure scarf to practice knits & purls.  I ended up practicing adding a new ball, too, cuz I ran out of the blue!   Roll Eyes

.

and here's the part that I am most proud of, adding the new ball!

It's basic, but I'm totally proud.  I'm almost finished with another scarf that I will post soon.  I'm a knitting FOOL now!!!   Grin
43  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / "France in a box" on: January 16, 2005 07:47:43 PM
Hey guys & girls, I am stuck!   Huh

My future sis-in-law is going to France this summer with her mom (she's 15).  I want to make her a France-in-a-box before she goes, but I'm stuck on what to put in it.  Here is what I have so far:

funny pics of me and her bro (my boy) in "traditional" French stuff (like with a baguette)
something French vanilla, like lipgloss or perfume
something french fry related Huh?  (see how stuck i am  : P)

Thanks for any ideas!  I really want to give her something special and funny.

Thanks again,
Laura

Hey grrls (and guys).  My name's Laura, and I am brand-spanking new to this site.  I'm from Auburn, a college student/photographer/artist/brand-new knitter there.  It's good to see other crafty people from Bama!

45  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / super-newbie question on: January 01, 2005 08:33:59 PM
This is a really goofy question, but it plagues me constantly!

I'm making the common mistake mentioned on page 38 of the Stitch & Bitch book, where the last stitch I make looks like two, with the thread hanging down the back instead of the front.  I have figured out how to work around it, just turning it to the front (makes the loop cinched around the bottom really loose) but I want to know how to correct it.  Although it's mentioned in the book, the solution isn't there.  I'm sure it's right in front of me, but I can't see it.

Thanks for any help!
Laura
46  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / hi everyone! on: January 01, 2005 07:01:52 PM
Hey everyone.  My name's Laura, and I'm a brand-new knitter.  I'm teaching myself from the Stitch & Bitch book.

Here's a bit about me:  I am a photographer/artist (my online portfolio is http://www.rocknfoto.com).  I'm also a college student, going for an English degree at Auburn University in Alabama.  Knitting was something I'd always wanted to do but just didn't, until this Christmas.  I got the Stich & Bitch book and have been teaching myself, although that's kind of difficult for me.  So I looked about and found this site!

Thanks for reading.  I'm looking forward to chatting here!
