1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Team Grave Digger on: November 01, 2012 12:42:07 PM
My son has a HUGE obsession with monster trucks.  Ever since LAST November he's been saying we're all going to be monster trucks for Halloween. For awhile he ventured off and played super heros or dinosaurs and I was hoping he'd pic one of them to be.  But in the end we all had to be monster trucks.  Grave Digger is his favorite and probably the most popular so we went as "team Grave Digger".  I was the 30th Anniversary edition, my husband was the vintage one, a friend of ours came as Grave digger the legend, and my son was Son Uva Digger.

All together:

Tick or treating

At the end of the night we had a crash-o-rama and destroyed them before sending them off to the dumpster...

2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Angler Fish Costume! on: November 01, 2012 12:33:14 PM
This year I have a friend that is pregnant and she isn't far enough along to know the sex yet.  She went in to the hospital with some concerns and ended up getting an ultra sound done and the tech said she saw "(maybe) testicles".  That reminded me of an old oatmeal comic about the angel fish (seen here:http://theoatmeal.com/comics/angler) and decided I had to be one for Halloween this year.

The mask is made of paper mache and it's my first time since grade school doing it.  The eyes are made from polymer clay, the antenna looking this is wire covered in paper mache for more girth, the light was a little light up "finger light" from the dollar store.

I don't know how to rotate this pic

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / HELP!! DIY WINE PURSE?? on: October 06, 2011 04:59:28 PM
So I NEED to make this purse for a friend of mine.  She LOVES wine, and can never figure out how to get it to the beach (it's legal so long as it's not in glass).  BUT I stumbled upon this and I have no idea how to go about it.  Does anyone have any ideas?? I've never made a purse before either, so the simpler the pattern the better.

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / It's a pillow, it's a pet, it's a pillow pet!! on: December 25, 2010 09:22:00 PM
So I brought my son to see santa and what did he ask for?  A blue bunny pillow pet.  Unfortunatley the creaters of pillow pets believe bunnies are a girl thind so they only came in pink, purple or white with hot pink.  SOLUTION: make my own d@$# pillow pet.  It's bigger, softer, and he loves it more than anything.  Take that pillow pet manufacturers.

5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Pale Man painting on: December 21, 2010 06:04:20 PM
I had no idea what to get a friend of mine for xmas.  I remembered he like the Pale man from Pan's labrynth but I couldn't find any kind of Pale man memorabilia that was resobably priced.  I had a few extra canvas's so I whipped this up in 2 days before our party. I'm no painter so criticism is appreciated.

I think he liked it, but you can never tell...
6  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Dollar store Halloween wreaths on: September 25, 2010 01:27:48 PM

I'm addicted to the dollar store, with it's endless amounts of treasures.  I've also loved wreaths, but I've never made one before.  So, after a trip to our local dollar store I decided to make 3.  I picked up a few supplies:

Grabbed my hot glue gun and glued moss to one:

the hot glue method was a bit time consuming, spray glue may work better.

After this step i lost my hot glue sticks and spent about an hour looking for them, only to realize they fell behind the table ( I suggest you skip that part).  Then I glued the decorations:

The other two are just some halloween themed garland with these amazing glittery skulls I found.

I think they're pretty good for my first try at wreaths.
7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Days of the Week Felt Board on: September 18, 2010 08:17:25 PM
I made this to help teach my 3 year old the days of the week.  It was a picture frame from goodwill (with some scary flower painting in it) that had plastic and NOT glass for the front.  I flipped the whole thing inside out so the picture was backwards and just the white was showing, and the closures for the frame were on the white side.  That side he uses as a white board.  The other side was then just the front of the frame and cardboard.  I covered it in felt strips and painted the words with puff paint.  He loves it! We sing a "days of the week" song to the tune of the Aadams Family theme and he can do it all! Please comment Smiley

8  COOKING / Dessert / Marshmallow fondant Cake on: September 18, 2010 03:01:36 PM
Okay, all my posts so far are food so I promise the next one won't be.  This is a strawberry cake (Pillsbury) with home made butter cream icing and a homemade marshmallow fondant.  I'm still new to fondant so it's a bit lumpy (I really need a smoothing tool).  This fondant is super easy to make but can be a little sticky.  I suggest rolling it out on parchment paper and dusting EVERYTHING with powdered sugar.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or criso ( I mixed them and used a bit less than 1/4)
1 (16 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
4 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract\
1 teaspoon Almond extract
2 pounds confectioners' sugar, divided (1 cup is for kneading and rolling fondant)

In a microwave safe bowl heat marshmallows for 1:30 to 2 minutes.  Add water and vanilla and start, on low with mixer.  Add sugar 1 cup at a time until all except 1 cup is used.  Knead butter in for 5 to 10 minutes and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate over night.

Thanks for looking I hope you give it a try.

9  COOKING / Dessert / Hedgehog cake on: September 15, 2010 05:58:55 PM
I made this for a party last year and never knew how to post until now! I made a chocolate cake with caramel icing and carved it into this cute little guy. The eyes and nose are Reese's Pieces and the quills are pocky.  I also made the mushrooms out of a stiff meringue that I piped onto a cookie sheet and baked at a low temp. and paited with food coloring for the dots.  I hope you like it!

10  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Mini Meatloaf "cupcakes" on: September 13, 2010 02:51:48 PM
My 3 year old wanted cupcakes for dinner tonight so this is our compromise: Meat loaf "cakes" with mashed potatoe frosting and a pea for garnish.  He ate them up!!  I finally figured out how to post a pic!  I think my husband liked these even more than our son, I caught him sneaking some at 6 am!
