im also makeing this, mine was always round

heres the top of mine


and then i turned it inside out


the black lines are to point out where the increases are (i messed up with drawling 1 line on the inside out one though)

ive done a few rows of single crochet on mine

i dont know what you're doing wrong... but maybe seeing this will help

i have harry potter on the brain (as usual) and this blanket... combined i came up with this idea

the psycadelic blanket done in HP house colors


i think it would look better if the colors were a bit different, but you can only do so much with paint
i dont have any intention of makeing it though... i dont see myself doing this blanket again and that color combination isent really my style

well the first bit is worked in a spiral
i strongly suggest useing a stitch marker (like a safety pin) to mark the first stitch of the row

the 2nd bit you join at the end of the row

if thats not what you're looking for more details of what you dont understand would help

oooo after looking closer at the pattern i think i get what you're asking

the pink is row 2
the blue is where to put the stitches in row 3
the purple line is the stitch marker i suggested above

and heres a full set of 4 photoshopped together and a photoshopped layout of the blanket... of course it'll have more squares and i plan on an edgeing too

thats the color sample from the site, its a bit more accurate than my pictures, its called Lavender

my carpet is a bit lighter than the yarn, the color in the 2nd picture is pretty accurate, the company calls it "chilled grape"  Grin  i love it hehe

i put my clapotis down for awhile and just picked it back up today
and i lost my circular needle virginity  Smiley
so far ive done 2 rows on um (1  to transfer, 1 regular). not sure how i feel about them yet, but useing such long (13 inch?) straight needles was hurting my back

now for pictures! i put it on a t-shirt because my carpet and yarn colors are close to each other




im doing increases, i still have to do rows

the yarn is lion brand microspun and i cant believe how far its going! i put a new ball into the pictures to show it (and a roll of duct tape for scale)



im happy with it so far but next time i dont want a soild color

forgot to say im useing size 8 needles and i didnt bother checking my gauge since its just a scarf/shawl

the colors MUCH brighter in the sun, and darker in other lights (the camera flash lightened it)

originally when i did it it was waaaaaaaaaay too dark, it looked HORRIBLE on me, im so glad it lightened a lot
