1  Earth photo frame in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by illegalcreativity on: November 12, 2013 09:58:34 PM
~hello~
i mostly post around the jewelry section because i'm actually a jewelry design major
but i wanted to switch it up a little and made a photo frame as one of my projects instead

assignment: domed marriage of metal lentils

it ended up in the showcase [that generally represents the works of my major in the school] smack dab in the middle at eye level ~~~

to see how it was made:
click !
it goes from most recent to oldest though, so you'd have to scroll to the very bottom :x ~

let me know what you think ? Smiley

For this project, I had to
make a die & use a hydraulic press*
chase / repousse (in copper)
enamel*
make a mold & cut it open
cast a silver version
make a hinge & spring*
make a clasp for it to close on will*
sandblast
set pearl*

*are things that I've never done before&unrelated to the class and I learned specifically to make this piece ;~;

4  Earth x Saturn earrings in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by illegalcreativity on: December 29, 2012 10:01:14 AM

made for my midterm project ^^ .. but haven't had time to take pictures T__T ..

I used the disc cutter for (4) perfect circles, and then the dapping block (several times) to make domes for a sphere ~
for earth, I first did a practice piece in brass, then moved into silver (drawing the continents on, then cutting them all out and soldering the 2 pieces together)

for saturn, I had no design idea and had 3 domes ready to cut out and didn't like any of them T_T so they were all thrown out, and I ended up with this simple idea ~ the orb is cut out of silver and big enough to come out of the socket, but too small to fall out entirely

dapping is a tedious process, but i think it's really fun ~

[for rough size estimates]

5  planet earring in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by illegalcreativity on: October 20, 2012 10:57:54 AM

I rolled out thick sheets of (brass&nickel*) metal into really thin pieces, sawed out circles (and an orb)-- formed the circles into half spheres on the dapping block and soldered everything together

what a PAIN! haha ~ because i like using the same type solder for entire projects, so pieces kept falling off, and when i finally finished and polished it, the ear post fell off .. so i had to resolder and repolish everything -__-!

you can kinda see the joints from the bottom view (my mom thought it was a solid ball);

 Cheesy

*this was a practice piece (to get used to the dapping block and as a prototype), I want to make one in silver in the future ~

hand pierced & sawed the wings, then soldered them onto a sheet of brass

i really hate piercing ;__;
i've had this sketched out for a few months now, but never wanted to make it until I had to for my piercing and sawing class D:!

different design & metal Cheesy!

haha lochness-- it'd be hard to incorporate the fins (? feet? flippers ..), but maybe one day ..!

for now, my dino's new friends!

sadly matte and buffed doesn't show much of a difference on screen ;__;

carved and hollowed out in wax, then casting in brass ^^
I plan to make a mold and shoot millions of dinosaurs, oxidize them to random colours and have a whole army going on!  Cheesy
