31  Cat tea wallet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by How Lovely on: February 10, 2011 03:17:55 AM
So I thought I would jump onto the tea wallet band wagon after I saw this super cute fat quarter at the fabric store. I made two, they were so easy!!! This one, and it's identical sister were made for my Great Nanna's 90th and for my Mum as she drinks peppermint tea and no one ever has it at their house Smiley Seeing as they were so easy I now think all my granparents and bf's grandparents will be getting them as bday pressies Smiley

Also, I didn't have interfacing so I used felt... It seemed to work ok... Is that bad?

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to wist... or if you're a sook like me, cry with happiness over how cute and perfect he is!!!!
Today I received an amazing little box in the post from Kitty_Catty

First, this is what I saw when I opened the box, papers about to be filed away for future crafting Smiley

Then I untied the first little package, amazingly tight ribbon by the way!

Inside was an amazing bag of embellishments!!! I can't wait to go through them after dinner!

Then, my little darling!!!!

I am in love!!! I haven't named him yet, I'm taking suggestions if anyone has any??

And last a picture for scale, I'm using the same scale as Kitty_Catty, standard cat scale... unfortunately my cat is a huge beast so he kinda dwarfs owly

Thank you so much Kitty_Catty!!!! He is amazing!!!! I love him so much!!!!!

35  Re: Journal for a month swap GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by How Lovely on: January 09, 2011 01:24:54 AM
I am finally getting my butt into gear and posting photos! I received CraftyMcCrafterson's journal a while ago now, thank you so much for sharing it with me! I'm afraid I have no excuse for posting pics so late.... though I have been reading the 13th book of the Wheel of Time series and I have been forgetting to do everything as I am so engrossed in it! Our journalling styles are really different so it was so exciting to read her journal but we ourselves had a lot in common Smiley We're going to keep in touch as pen-pals Smiley Onto a few of my favourite pics Smiley

The beautiful front cover, I love all the textures!!

Some sketches, I am so jealous of these! I wish I could sketch!!!

Some Japanese cards, my boyfriend tells me they use these in primary schools to play language games, to help learn Hiragana. They are little phrases or sayings. One says something like, flowers here, flowers there, lots of flowers" (my shoddy interpretation of my bf's wonderful translation) and the other one is about praying to these little paper dolls that children often own for good weather for an upcoming excursion Smiley
Thank you so much CraftyMcCrafterson for sharing with me! I look forward to keeping in touch Smiley

36  Paper Beads in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by How Lovely on: September 09, 2010 05:06:32 AM
This is an old one, I wear it to uni a lot, it's just that I've only just worked out how to connect my own camera to my computer... after a whole year!
The beads are made out of paper (bought from spotlight, not made by me sadly), I varnished them so that the colours wouldn't run, the paper seems to be tissue paper I think. As usual, the true colour isn't shown, they're hot pink and haven't faded after a whole year and they get a lot of wear! And the silver beads are hollow spacers (does anyone know the real name for this type of bead? I think it starts with D?)

Thanks for looking!

37  Fabric Button Necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by How Lovely on: September 09, 2010 04:53:26 AM
So I bought these really dodgy uncovered button on ebay... like I had to glue the backs in they're so dodgy! But I have made a necklace out of them, and also a tonne of hair pins but I gave them to my friend and forgot to take pics! I'll make more soon though!

It's just metal spacers and red glass beads between.

38  Here Kitty Kitty!!! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by How Lovely on: September 09, 2010 04:49:14 AM
My name is Albert! Would you take me home?

The colours aren't quite true, he's really shades of watermelon green and red. I made him from a fat flat I had around, I think it's by Emily Bloom. I made up the pattern but based the idea of using a square for the body from this amigarumi (but knitted) kitten tutorial from here that I now can't find anywhere!
I'm thinking of having a market stall in a few months and I wanted to know if you saw him, would you buy him? Or could I change him in anyway that would make you like him more? I'm not completely happy with his head Sad I hope that's ok to ask, but I don't have an etsy and I live in Aust., so I'm not promoting my stall, I just really want some feed back! Thanks!

39  Re: Wheel of Time Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by How Lovely on: September 02, 2010 03:08:07 AM
Hahaha so I got in so much trouble taking these photos, I spilt my apple juice all over the kitchen table, chairs and floor and my sisters cat. My mum was not happy! Luckily I did not spill it on my beautiful new craftiness Smiley So here we go, first a beautiful envelope and card from Minathia

Two amazing bookmarks for the two books left:
Again, let me say, I want to crochet!

Also, I'm an English Literature Major so these guys will be getting a work out!

My bag that I will be taking to uni every day! It has cute little pockets inside to hold my nicknacks but I forgot to take pics of that

Close up!

And finally, my new beautiful shawl that I will be wearing with a black dress [not the one in the pic, I stole that from my sister Smiley ] to my cousins wedding in a few weeks, which I'm really hoping will be warm! It's so good, it fits perfectly!

Dodgy mirror shot that I forgot to rotate, but you get the idea Smiley

And another close up, this material is seriously amazing, it's so detailed!

The green ajah are going to be so jealous of my new shawl!!! Thank you Minathia, I love everything!!!!!!!

40  Challenge 1: Walter, Darling? Mixed media necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by How Lovely on: February 05, 2010 11:18:19 PM
The darkness enshrouded them, no moon shone to give them away as they stood, hand in hand, dark blurs against the even darker blur of the sea. She wrapped her hand around his waist, sighing as she rested her head against his chest. As a wave washed around her ankles he rested his head against hers. Clara finally felt complete.

My necklace was inspired by a short story I wrote for my HSC English major work. It is representative of my three main characters, Clara, Emiliana and Harry.

I used two silk tops (unspun skeins of silk) and loosely twisted them together, representing Clara and her great great grandmother. I sprayed them with a mix of acrylic varnish and water, similar to the process used in making silk paper in order to keep all the fibres together. I also felt that the variations in the colour of the silk fibres looked dappled like the ocean on a still day.

I used an Italian hollow bead as the focal point of my necklace, it is representative of Harry, Emiliana's young love who drowns when his ship the Walter Hood is sunk at Wreck Bay on the NSW South Coast. Hundreds of years later Harry's spectral figure appears to Clara, that's why I chose the hollow bead, kinda like a ghost Smiley

The seed beads both cover the stitching and are meant to be little oceanids. The white pearls represent the gifts Harry gives to Clara that he pulls up from the sea. The dark pearls are resplendent of the darker, mysterious nature of the sea. I chose a silver ring for the clasp to represent the enchanted ring that binds the characters together as well as the ominous rocks that ring the ocean where Clara meets Harry. Wow this is so wordy! Onto the pics, cheers if you bothered to read it!

And my inspiration for both the story and the necklace, the beach where I live and Clara's (cough* my) secret spot:
