42  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: What weird meals have you made while totally broke? on: June 10, 2010 03:50:46 PM
I would always make a big pot of rice & beans. I prefer to cook beans myself, not canned. Cheaper that way & I can add just a tiny bit of salt & some garlic.  Then add different things each night. One night add a can of stewed tomatos, another night a bit of shreded chicken & corn, etc.
Do soup the same way make chicken soup with carrots, onion, chicken & garlic  then add differnt things a few frozen peas  or simmer a potato in it that way you can eat the same thing all week but keep it interesting.
one of may fav cheap meals  is 1/2 a pack ramen cooked and added to pan scrample an egg add a bit of dried parsely & a dash of hot sauce.

Those are beautiful! The recipie sounds good too. I like a very moist cake.

I love the pink & white marble accents .
the shimmery pearls are very pretty too.

How do you get yours nice and flat? do you trim them, or does the addition of the pudding cause them to puff up less when oyu bake them

I add garbanzo or CiCi beans to almost anything.

One of my favorite side dishes, or lunches:
Cook white or Brown rice(or a mixture) when still just a bit warm add your favorite dressing (I prefer a vinegar & oil dressing.) mix in cooked beans, peas.    other good mixins, dice ham or chicken or turkey, chopped veggies (green peppers, tomatoes, green beans, onion). I like to top a serving with a little shredded Parmesan cheese.  uummm

I love a big bowl of hot beans with corn bread. (very good Recipe on PioneerWoman.com )
48  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Baked Potato bar .... what is your fav potato topping?? on: September 28, 2009 08:18:13 AM
I am doing a baked potato bar... what is your favorite topping??  here is what I have so far:

Baked Potatoes , baked sweet potatos
butter, flavored butters(garlic, lemon pepper, parmasan ) , sour cream
brown sugar, cinnamon (for sweet potatoes)
Cheese: Paramasan cheese, shredded mozzarella, shredded cheddar
Veggies: steamed broccoli, steamed mixed veggies, steamed peas, salsa
dice black olives, dices green olives
homemade chilli with meat & beans , crumbled bacon , shredded cooked chicken , diced ham
also taco chips (so people can make nacho rather than a potato if they wish)
Frank Red Hot Sauce

I am trying to choose things that work together, so it's not just a mish mash of stuff on the table.

any other suggestions??

****Also is there a search feauture that I am not finding?? I didn't want to post this if it had already been a topic.
