1  Christmas Ornaments! Embroidery, felt, beads, fabric! in Winter Holidays by Mabels Drawing Table on: October 09, 2009 11:02:26 AM
I make ornaments every year for Christmas presents.  One year I painted glass bulbs and another year I made big fabric poinsettias.  This year I'm doing a lot of different things!  Including my first tries at embroidery!

Oh Christmas tree!  Embroidered on felt, with a fabric background. Bead ornaments!

Embroidery on felt, with bead accents.

SANTA!  I saw a line drawing of him on-line and transferred it to stitching, the fluffy parts are loose french knots. I had sewed every senqin on the edges, it was quite time consuming.  As was his beard.

This is for my mom.  Her name is Holly and of course holly is her favorite Christmas motif!  The cardinal represents my grandma, who loved cardinals and I thought it would be a nice touch!  I cut the leaves out of felt and stitched a vein going through the center of it.

Thanks for looking!  I'm quite proud!

2  Moral Booster Altoid Tin in Completed Projects by Mabels Drawing Table on: September 06, 2009 12:06:03 PM
My boyfriend deployed to Afghanistan earlier this year and I wanted to give him a very special present/memento to keep his spirits up while he's over there!  I wanted something light so he could keep it with him and small enough to fit in his pocket soooo naturally altoid tin!

To fill it I cut heavy cardboard to size and spray-glued a light canvas so it would fold accordion style.  On each panel I put things important to him.

He's a photographer so I cut out photos he's taken from a contact sheet and collaged them, I put a quote that says "I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long.  If we're in each others dreams, we can play together all night."  The next panel I painted a can of sprite, he calls me his "cold sprite on a hot day" hehe.  Next is a picture of us in NYC on our first date, and the last is a two-bit painting of a camera.  On the otherside I wrote him a note and I filled the box with wallet sized photos of his friends, family and us.

He says he takes it out everyday when he is feeling sad or down and it instantly makes him feel better!  While he's over there he's filling it with different things like a pressed tree leaf.

Anyway thanks for looking!  This is my very first post!

Oh and I'm sorry about the lame pic, it was taken on deployment day...
