2  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Quilting supplies/ How much do you get of each fabric? on: January 23, 2011 09:32:19 AM

Hey,

My boyfriend has just bought me a sewing machine (after me dropping hints for ages lol), and I'm wanting to get into doing quits and making items etc. Sorry about the two questions in one i thought this was better than doing two posts.

So question one, what are the essential things i will need for quilting?

And the second question is, I'm just wondering if you like a fabric, how much do you buy? As I've seen a few i like and I'm unsure on how much id realistically need to make a decent quilt.

Thanks for any help

5  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Acid Dye help please :) on: October 07, 2009 02:57:12 PM
Hi everyone, I'm hoping to borrow your wisdom, now hopefully this month i will have enough money to get some acid dyes, i just don't know which ones to get and basically what to do with them once i get them. Does anyone use acid dyes? if so which ones as i have looked into the Jacquard acid dyes and they seem good and i can get them in the UK but i can't find anywhere which tells me how to use them.

Hope someone can help

7  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Ive bitten the bullet, now need help with dying on: September 03, 2009 03:07:34 PM

Hi everyone,

Im looking for some guidence in the way of dying cotton and other man-made/plant fibers. Ive just bought myself just now a drop spindle and some cotton roving, of which i would like to dye before i start to spin it.

What would be the best natural vegan dyes to use, to dye the roving before i spin it?

Also would i have to use different dye's for every different roving as depending on how i go with this first lot, i might go ahead and get some soy/hemp/flax/linen ect ect roving

Hope someone can help

Thanks

8  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Hiiii, would it be possible to get some help :) on: September 03, 2009 04:24:58 AM

Hi everyone,

Ive been looking at these forums for a while and decided to just bite the bullet, and ask for some help.

Now my Boyfriends sister is having a baby and im going to be making this for the upcomming child http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29638205, thankfully i have till april next year to make it all up. Now ive decided that i would like to spin my own cotton for this project.

What is the best way to go about this, sadly as i am vegan it will have to be a vegan subsitute. What is the best way to go to get a worstened wool type of thing.

What will i need? Ive looked on the net and carnt really find anything helpfull

Hope someone can help

Nessy xx
