1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / For Azure on: May 18, 2013 04:41:34 PM
My sister-in-law Azure died a year ago, leaving behind two sweet little boys.
To commemorate the one-year anniversary, her family and friends planned a benefit for the boys, to help cover "kids being kids" type expenses (school field trips, summer day camp, etc.).

I made this quilt to donate to the silent auction. I wasn't really working off of a pattern, just trying to put something together quickly, but now that I've seen posts about the Modern Quilt Guild's Plain Spoken, it looks pretty darn similar Smiley I must have seen that one somewhere.

It's not quite twin sized... more like large throw-size or foot-of-the-bed draping size.

Haha. Awesome  Cheesy This sounds like one of my crafting misadventures. The finished product is lovely, though. I have a stack of sheets in my closet that someday, maybe, will be turned into one of these as well. I'll sub the vodka for wine though Wink

5  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Auntie Tootie's chemo quilt on: January 15, 2012 07:53:22 PM

I made this throw sized-quilt for my "Auntie Tootie."

She was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. This has shaken our family to the core... I could go on, and on, and on about how much she means to us. We are saying our prayers every day that she comes through this okay.

In my manic "need to make a chemo care package!!!" state, I declared that I needed to make her a quilt. I know it's not much. It was hastily put together, in hopes of trying to get it finished before she started her treatments. I didn't use a pattern, I didn't measure, I tore instead of cut much of the pieces, and the hand-quilting is uneven at best. But I love it. It's my favorite quilt so far. I mostly make baby-sized quilts for friends. This is the largest one I've completed, and it's gorgeous, if I do say so myself. I give 90% of the credit to Anna Maria Horner for designing such beautiful prints. The entire quilt is from her Loulouthi, Innocent Crush, and Little Folks collections. The front is quilting cotton, and the back is voile.

Happy Halloween!
I posted last year's Barbie Zombie garden here:http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=363431.0

I didn't add any new zombies this year, but they are in some new locations. Enjoy!

9  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Hanging Strawberry Planter on: June 12, 2011 05:56:50 PM
In the spirit of "huh, I could make that," I took inspiration from a craft that I found at the local Farmer's Market, and made a hanging strawberry planter.

I honestly didn't use a pattern, or measure, or pin, or finish my seams, and it shows Smiley

The bottom is a single thickness of fabric, and the sides are a double thickness. I placed a plastic bag with the bottom cut out of it inside of the bucket before adding the potting soil and compost. I figured that would help to keep moisture in, while still allowing it to drain.

It may or may not work... but I figure for the investment of $5 for the plants and less than an hour of my time (the fabric was from my stash and I already had the soil), it will be a fun experiment.
