1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / September peacock, cobalt blue idea gathering on: January 25, 2011 07:41:50 PM
Hello crafters! I've been lurking in the background for far too long, getting inspired by many of the ideas on this board. It is high time I posted something myself. I have been slowly planning my wedding for 9/24/11 since last April when finance and I got engaged. I've been working in little spurts and going through a lot of life changes (move to new city, new job, etc). We have some of the big things figured out (venue, food, photographer, dress and a few others). We are using a peacock theme, especially playing up the blues and greens, but throwing in purple and/or gold accents in as well. Here's what I'm considering for DIY.

STD (Almost finished. My fiance has a great eye for design and photography and took this on himself. We decided on a simple and inexpensive photo card from snapfish and a magnet from vista print. I'll post pics when they come in.)

Invitations (My initial thought was to design them myself and take them some place to get them printed. We don't have a great printer or I'd consider printing myself. Has anyone taken a design to a shop to be printed? How much did it cost? I've seen some designs posted, but would like some info on cost if anyone has it. I'm hoping to save some money in this area and also have a general idea in my head I'd like to work with.)

Centerpieces (I've been collecting cobalt blue vases, picking them up cheaply at yard sales and thrift stores and would like to use them. I am tempted to use real flowers from Sam's Club or order from www.wholesale-wedding-flowers.com/ or http://www.growersbox.com/. I thought of keeping the design simple with one or two kinds of flowers and also maybe incorporate some peacock feathers. I would need to do about 20 centerpieces total and I have people I could ask to help. Some people have cautioned me against this because it would have to be done at the last minute. Did anyone do this? What was your experience? Another idea I've considered is doing something with paper flowers.)

Those are the main projects I've given some thought to and I'll probably do a few more. I like crafting but also don't want to try to take on more than I really have time for and/or can enjoy and do well. I think things like favors, place cards, ring pillow could also be doable. So any ideas, comments, etc would be appreciated...Thank s!
