1  R + J Love Letter Pillow (Lots of photos) in Completed Projects by thatgirl on: June 10, 2011 12:28:43 AM
Two friends, both alike in dignity, in fair Connecticut, where they are getting married...

(I didn't know where to post this, so, here?) My friends are getting married in two weeks, I am driving up from Texas, so I had to bring something awesome. I am SO proud of this. I've never seen one before, I came up with what I am calling the "love letter pillow" from a few different ideas i was toying with. It came out SO nicely, I think they'll love it. On each side of the pillow is a lined pocket for love letters, and I made a little lined box to hold blank notes on the bedside table.

Please comment, I'd love to hear what you think! On to the photos!

pillow side 1 w/letter

pillow side 2

pillow side 1, open box

pillow side 2, closed box

box lid

inner box lid

open box w/notes (all hand stamped!)

i mixed in about twenty pre-written love notes with the blank ones.

4  flying butterfly multi-lingual spring quilt! (pics, glorious pics) in Quilting: Completed Projects by thatgirl on: April 14, 2009 01:05:21 AM
this is the second quilt i've made for my niece/godbaby. i found a ton of this butterfly fabric for a couple dollars at the thrift store, it sat on the thinking desk for a long time. i knew i wanted to make the butterflies flappable, but couldn't figure out what to do for the other side.  then inspirado hit and it was finished slap dash just in time for easter and spring and BUTTERFLIES OMyG. the sewing's a little sloppy, but it's SOOOO cute. (and soft!) a little google language search, some glitter puff paint, and voila! teach your baby to say "butterfly" in twelve different languages! onto the pics (sorry for the poor quality, i only have an iphone).

close up front block- this is how you say "butterfly" in romanian:

the "front"

the "back" (you can kind of see the 3D flutterbies...)

couple flapper closeups:

and obligatory adorable:

yes to comments, questions, all the stuff. thanks for looking!

back (pocket):

the second is based off of the buttercup bag and a bag that roomie has borrowed that a friend got in amsterdam:

6  stuffed monsters with quilt holding stations! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thatgirl on: January 06, 2009 01:11:29 AM
i am posting this in quilts and here, since it's kind of both, and i am SO proud of this. this is the first thing i made with my sewing machine and it came out sew awesome!
i bought the fabric and started with the patchwork, not really having a plan for what was going to happen, then set it aside for a long time while i made some random monsters (from a "pattern" in craft magazine- love it!), just making things with my machine. then i got the idea to put the two together!
my sister's baby girl is my god baby, and i had made five monsters, and there are five letters in her name (WILEY) so... i named all the monsters after each letter of her name.  i kicked into high gear to put it all together into a quilt for her second birthday (which was on thanksgiving). i had it ready to give to my sis on a special trip in october but she wanted the baby to equate the quilt with me. i live in minneapolis, she lives in dallas so we waited until christmas to give it to her. and i finally took pictures!

it's my first attempt at free motion quilting, and even though it took FOREVER to get the tension right (and only as a fluke did i figure it out) i think it turned out awesome.

this is the front, sans monsters.

8  little french girls clutch- first one! all scraps! so cute! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by thatgirl on: December 16, 2008 03:17:59 PM
i am so excited about this little bag! i had this one tiny scrap piece of fabric. i don't know where it come from, but i LOVED it:

the little girls look french to me, so i decided to make it into something for my friend elise, who is from france. the swatch was 6X8 inches, so i built a bag around it.

the french girls are on the back, and then i made a panel for the front and a pocket from this long strip of turquoise, found some lavender and orange for linings and more pocket...voila.

cutest bag i've ever made, cause it's the first! now i'm gonna make more! let me know what you think!

this is a quilt i made for my old roommate's baby. his name is redmond. you can see him here:
http://www.samsklaver.com/

the letters are on pocket squares, and the little stuffed animals go in the pockets.

i forgot to take a picture of the back. it's thick stripes of the blue and the turquoise.

sorry for the weird photo of the whole thing. i'll figure this posting thing out. thanks for looking!

10  wedding gift in Needlework: Completed Projects by thatgirl on: March 19, 2005 11:54:46 AM

whenever my friends get married, i start a crossstitch project and never finish it. i think it's the sappy "to love and honor forever and ever" or "two hearts, one love" that turns me off. i had actually finished the border on this one for a friend two years ago, and then put it down. when my roommate told me she was preggers, and her wedding that was supposed to be sometime next year would be happening sometime next week, i picked it back up again, and worked like a mad woman. as i just finished it, i'm standing firmly behind the "you have a year to give wedding gifts" adage. it was maybe going to say "shotgun wedding 2005" but i didn't want to be too offensive. plus this is funnier.
