1  Re: Embroidery Hoopla R8 - The Wordy Round Gallery in The Swap Gallery by hugarobot on: August 15, 2012 02:08:01 PM
MY HOOP FROM MEGZY CAME!!! I literally squealed and sent pics to my sister, who agreed that this hoop is like Lisa Frank wept tears of joy onto fabric then boxed itup and sent it to her #1 fan. If you can't tell, I LOVE it. Without further ado, I present the rainbow:

the tattoo style font with the little exclamation points?! The little stitches of the next color in each letter? THE BEADS.

this yellow flower bead between the Y &G..favorite.

Thank you, Megzy!

FINALLY! Craftster will work on my phone and at my parents? The hamster must have fallen off the internet wheel at my house....
anyway! A few days ago I received my hoop from erica_tattoos and youguysitsawesome!!! She used one of the Frida Kahlo quotes on my list and cooked this up:

I love that fabric, I have bits I have been hoarding and now I feel like I don't have to hoard them! I might even swoop her method and make a quilted hoop sort of like this for my friend who was here when I opened it and so jealous.
A close up of the stitching on the quote

And a couple of the quilting...can you tell the height difference between the window and frame & the puffiness of the flowers??

I think it goes without saying that I LOVE this!

3  One Christmas embroidery down.... in Needlework: Completed Projects by hugarobot on: July 17, 2012 10:05:17 AM
but I'm not sure how many to go. This is for my sister, she saw it online a few months ago and emailed it to me under the subject "for Christmas"...we're known for subtlety in my family. I *kind of* stole him--I know, shame on me but there wasn't a pattern to purchase! And it's not like I'm selling it... Anyway, just a couple pictures. I just finished him, he hasn't been pressed or anything.

4  Re: 2012 Winter Holiday Crafting Lists! in Winter Holidays by hugarobot on: July 05, 2012 04:18:29 PM
Maybe if I make my list public, I will be more motivated to use nap times as crafting hour, not do-the-dishes-hour....(who needs clean plates, anyway??)

For my little guy (2 years old):
-big hotwheels mat, no sew applique, so not a lot of sewing but a lot of drawing & cutting. This is the inspiration: http://homemadebyjill.blogspot.com/2010/10/oscars-car-playmat.html
-jammies x2
-quiet book
-arts & craft kit...he loves art!!
-boy type dress up stuff
-hoodie/winter vest
-a red dinosaur wearing jammies to go with a book I bought months ago and have been hoarding for Christmas. I have this pattern: http://www.funkyfriendsfactory.com/products/patterns/timmy-t-rex-soft-toy-sewing-pattern-instant-download/ I think it will work. This is the book http://www.amazon.com/Dinosaur-vs-Bedtime-Bob-Shea/dp/1423113357/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342129111&sr=8-1&keywords=dinosaur+vs+bedtime so maybe that t-rex pattern isn't goofy enough??

For new baby:
-I feel like I will have a better idea in a month or so, when we find out what flavor baby we're having!

Parents:
little paintings/ embroideries. a robin's nest for mom, antique fishing lures for dad

Sister:
-bird embroidery (this is almost done already!) DONE!!

brother-in-law:
-stenciled laptop/ipad case (not making the case, just stenciling it with Ron Swanson)

Also needed:
My brother & my husband's entire side of the family which consists of his parents, aunt and uncle, grandmother, and our niece & nephew (in the 1st and 3rd grades).

Im thinking pj pants for the niece and nephew because they are quick to make and can be done fairly inexpensively. And also, a diary for her (she's starting 2nd grade this fall) or a jewelry box similar to this http://diybydesign.blogspot.com/2011/09/chalk-paint-jewelry-box.html

For the nephew (entering 3rd grade this fall), I was thinking a marshmallow shooter http://momscraftyspace.blogspot.com/2011/05/marshmallow-shooters.html#
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Marshmallow-Gun

For his aunt & uncle, I am thinking some homemade dog treats for their awesome, giant dogs http://www.comeonilene.com/2011/05/31/homemade-dog-treats/
And cookies or fancy popcorns or something....

His mom and step-dad I am just at a complete loss of ideas for, though.

5  A cute little dress for a cute little girl in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by hugarobot on: March 15, 2012 09:09:09 AM
I have a 2 year old boy, and while making pants and shorts and shirts for him, who doesn't like to make sweet little girly things now and again? OK OK, so so far I've only made him a pair of overalls a year ago, but it's been a busy year!! So really, this is only the 2nd item of clothing I've ever sewn; a sweet little spring dress for a sweet little family friend. I got the pattern off etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheLilyBirdStudio) & it came together really fast. I'm glad I listened to my head and chose something a little simpler for a starting point, instead of diving in over my head like I usually do with projects. All the embellishments, like the rick rack and contrast piece at the bottom, were my doing though. I'd love to hear what you guys think!!

this is a better shot of the colors & the little strawberry buttons, which are my favorite part!

6  Re: Embroidery Hoopla Round 7 Gallery (Send Out Feb 27) in The Swap Gallery by hugarobot on: February 27, 2012 01:45:47 PM
My hoop from Lelila was waiting on my when I got home from my grandma's today!!! It is so cute; she based it off of something I had on my Pinterest and it is so cute!! I really really reaaaally like it, thank you Lelila!! The fabric is this pretty sort of batik in peacock blue-Lelila, if you have a better picture please add it. I am running out to class soon so just snapped one with my iphone :/. If not, I will try to get a better pic later. The blanket stitch she did around everything is so nice and even! <3

Sorry it's taken so long to post these pics everyone; DearBluebird sent me Max from Where the Wild Things Are!! I know she already posted her shot but I wanted to add mine Smiley He is so cute, his little face is just right. My 1 year old is actually going as Max for Halloween this year (just bought the fabric a couple days ago) and he seriously carries this hoop around the house with him. I hung it up and he cried for it...anyway, on to the pics!

the whole hoop

a close up of his face and crayon shading DearBluebird did

and the tail, which is my favorite part!

Thanks so much, I love it

8  This is definitely what happens when a unicorn pukes... in Needlework: Completed Projects by hugarobot on: July 31, 2011 10:03:55 AM
This is my first post in needlework! I picked embroidery up about a year ago, I still don't know a ton of stitches but I think I'm improving! This is a very belated gift for a very awesome friend. I'd originally told her I'd make her a zombie unicorn embroidery, but I couldn't come up with any drawings myself that I liked and google just produced gross results. Then I found this!

I used back stitch, satin, stem, and split. Here's a couple close ups...

the tail is my favorite part.

Thanks for checking it out guys! What do you think?

9  Zombie sock monkey in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by hugarobot on: July 22, 2011 08:21:22 PM
This guy is a super belated birthday gift for a good friend-it isn't perfect but I'm super happy with the way he turned out! He's completely hand sewn/embroidered (the brain)

I know the pics aren't the greatest quality; my camera battery died and I didn't discover that until about 5 minutes ago so cell phone pictures it is.

And a close-up of his brain peeking out and little leg bone  Cheesy

Whadda ya think?

My hoop from Sinella arrived Thursday! It is awesome, I love it! A blue Day of the Dead skull; this is so right on for me.

Her stitches are so neat and even, too Smiley

I burnt my hand pretty badly towards the end of May, which slowed me down a lot more than I thought it would. But I am working on getting an online track & confirm # so I can mail out today! (...how did I NOT know that the post office lobby is the only thing open on Saturday? I feel so dumb!)
