1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Messenger Bag Embroidered (Image heavy) on: August 11, 2010 10:41:28 AM
This is a bag I made for a young girl for Christmas 2009 and I'm just getting around to posting it.

It was made from a pair of jeans that had been worn by her Grandmother and a couple of very similar paisley fabrics (if you look closely you can tell).
This is a closeup of the machine embroidery on the front flap of the bag. The lime green accents are in cotton thread with the rest done in rayon 40 wt.

and a closeup of the name piece on the flap. All of the embroidery took 5 hoopings.

This is the back of the bag. The pockets are usable and the button fly has been lined to be used as a pocket too.

This is the inside has a full-sized pocket made from the elasticized part of a sundress fabric (the kind that makes a dress with only one seam) and a pocket made from one of the back pockets from the jeans with "Jeans lovingly worn by Grandma Goofy" stitched on it.

She recently told me she doesn't know what to use the bag for. She thought using it as a bookbag would be too hard on it. Teenagers....  Huh
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Machine Embroidered Leather Pillow on: August 11, 2010 10:08:39 AM
This is a pillow I made for an Aids Ministries fundraiser and I had originally set out to make a purse but I wanted it to appeal to the men who were bidding so I made it from leather and a pillow. (there were more men than women going to attend)

The fabric parts are made from a silk boucle skirt that I repurposed. The embroidery is all rayon 40 weight and the buckle is an antique mother-of-pearl.

Here is a closeup of one of the embroideries.

This is the other embroidery. It is actually a quote by Edwin Hubbel Chapin.

The winning bidder paid $75 and was really happy! Others who were bidding against him want more. Cheesy
3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Lace Embellished Denim Jacket on: August 11, 2010 09:49:27 AM
This jacket was made for a birthday gift for a 12 year old girl. I would have added more lace if I'd had more time.
The piece on the back was machine embroidered directly onto the jacket.

Here is a closeup.

More front detail.

It was really fun to make but way too big for her. I hope she still has it when she grows into it. Wink

4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Messenger Bag for 13 yr old (5 images) on: February 19, 2010 09:03:12 AM

This is my latest bag.
It was made from jeans worn by her grandmother and some of that sundress fabric to made one-seam dresses (with the elastic at the top).

I incorporated the elastic part into a pocket inside and if you look closely you can see I mixed two different sundress fabrics because I was using remnants.

As any of you who have raised teenagers know, they don't always like handmade. She loved it!
