1  Repo:The Genetic Opera "Blame Not My Cheeks" dress in Costumes: Completed Projects by vegantastic on: April 20, 2010 09:05:28 AM
This is a dress I made for the Amber's Sweets' shadowcast performance of Repo:The Genetic Opera! This is the dress that Paris Hilton wears when she sings "Blame Not My Cheeks".  I wanted to make one that was true to the size of the one she wears in the movies...and I think I came close!  For the top of the dress, I used Simplicity pattern #2832 but I made the pattern for the bottom of the dress myself.  That was a HUGE pain in the rear!  I went through about 3 different rough drafts of the panniers before I finally found one that would work!  The final dress wound up being about 4 1/2 feet wide!

Here's the top of the dress (mostly) finished with the panniers, before I draped the skirt (sorry for the blurry image, that was taken with my phone!)  The panniers were boned with crown molding ends from home depot because I couldn't find anything strong enough in a fabric store!  They actually worked VERY well!

Here's how it looked right after I draped the skirt (model: Jessalyn...who wore it in the show!)

You can see a close up of the sleeves and the back here.  I also made those gold gloves and the black choker for the outfit! (model: Our fearless director, Ashley)

I wish I had a better picture of the entire dress (I'll get one eventually) but here we are at Wondercon 2010!

Comments and criticisms always accepted!  I'd also love to hear from other Repo shadowcasts!

2  Re: Firefly Round 9 in The Swap Gallery by vegantastic on: April 19, 2010 04:42:56 PM
Holy cow!  Just got my package from popculturerecycled and it is AMAZING!  So many detailed, beautiful things...I hope I got pictures of everything!
The first thing I pulled out was Mal's box.

It was filled with all sorts of documents, Blue Sun stationary, money, index cards, a letter from Inara, a ticket to go see her and the bottle of whiskey he drank instead!!!!! Also in there was a CD of scripts how the series could have continued with the first one printed out!

Next was package #2!  This has biodegradable plant pots with "Not Mandatory" and firefly ship images on it.  There was a rubix cube with images from the show and little Wash charms (a leaf and a beagle!) There was also a strawberry that turned into a shopping bag and a Jayne hat magnet!

The next thing to unwrap was two beautiful decorative plates with a silhouette of the ship

And, finally, at the very bottom, there was a Topsy-Turvy strawberry planter! Wow!

I should also mention that she wrapped all of these things in fabrics so now I have more fabric to add to my stash..which is always a good thing :-)  Here's a picture of all of the fabric

One of the fabrics is the kind you make maxi dresses out of so you can bet that I'll have a maxi dress before too long!
And here's everything altogether (except for the whiskey bottle...which my boyfriend stole to put in our kitchen!)

Thanks for everything!

Alright, got my package from pugwash....everything was SO wonderful!!!!!
Here's me with the package (and my messy sewing area!)

I open up the package and the first thing I see is a huge yellow thing...it's a spice rack!

Yellow is my favorite color and I love cooking with and growing herbs so this was perfect!  Here is an action shot...

And some of the lovely detail...

The next thing I saw was a crocheted pink envelope...so cute!   I opened it up and there were little packets inside of seeds she had collected from her garden last year...how great is that?!!??!  There were seeds for thai basil, garlic chives and cilantro.  I'm so excited, I can't wait to plant them when the weather warms up a little!

Then, I opened up a little green package to find...

A choker and a bracelet made out of wire!  I'm such an electronics nerd so this is perfect!

Action shot... (sorry. I didn't get the bracelet in that picture but it fit perfectly!)

I didn't see anything else so I opened up a letter marked "read last", which explained all the crafts.  It talked about the spice rack, the seeds, the jewelry and the plant markers....wait, what?  I look back in the box and I had missed something!  I open it up and there are 4 vintage spoons with little pictures of plants on them....SO CUTE!

These were hard to get pictures of, but I tried!

In the chives...

In the sage...

Wow!  So much creativity and wonderfullness in one box!  Everything is great, thank you so much!!!

4  Repo!: The Genetic Opera Gentern Dresses (pic heavy!) in Costumes: Completed Projects by vegantastic on: January 09, 2010 03:58:17 PM
I'm one of the costumers for Sacramento's Repo!:TGO shadowcast, Amber's Sweets.  A few days ago, I got an e-mail from the director saying that we needed brand new gentern dresses for the "Night Surgeon" scene for a preview we were doing at SacAnime convention that weekend.  I had 4 days to make 3 dresses from scratch!  And no pattern!  And I didn't have all the actresses' measurements!  Somehow, I pulled it together, drafted a pattern, guessed measurements... and this is what I came up with!

They were lined and everything!

The one snafu came when there was a last minute actress change that I wasn't informed of.  The new actress was a very curvy girl, who I didn't have a dress for!  Our solution?  Keep the top of the dress open to make it a VERY cleavage-heavy outfit!  It actually looked great on her!

From left to right: That's Misty, Elisabeth and Andie!
