spacekitten: yes indeed you can.   or at least i do.  it can be a pain to thread the needle with it, so you might want to use a needle with a bigger hole, but usually it's no problem for me.  you'll wanna use it for the bobbin thread too, so that that one doesn't end up breaking every three centimetres, but you probably figured that out for yourself.

on another note, i know how to remedy saggy-crotch pants!  lay them out inside out and flat, and following the shape of the curve, sew a little in.  that was unbelieveably unclear, so here's a picture:

if the blue outline is the original shape of the pants, sew where the pink line is.  start a little down the leg, just so that it isn't an extreme shape change.  if you put the two legs together and do the same thing but upside down at the place where the two legs join, though, you'll get more crotch room instead.  ah, the things i've accidentally learned from making pants...
