11  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Re: Altered Converse turned to Platforms [Image Heavy!] on: January 29, 2012 08:25:51 AM
Yeah, they're pretty comfortable! If you're not used to walking in heels or wedges they'd prolly be a bit awkward at first but I've had no problem with them =] It probably also depends on how comfortable the shoes you're modifying are!

Averia, I am very hard to offend, like I said =]. I find far too many things funny to get offended by much, so you're safe  Wink

I'm working on the pouch tomorrow after the gym. I kept forgetting to buy green and orange felt [and since I go to the craft store like three times a week, it's sad xD] So now I have all I need to do this =D

=] thank you!

You could prolly still do something similar, like have the zipper be forever open by and when they close it just makes the shoe a bit tighter. I'm not sure I'm explaining that right, but like, sewing the fabric inside the shoe on each side of the zipper  so when it's open the fabric is revealed at the shoes still hold up?

Thanks! It's actually duct tape I got at Joann's. I have a serious obsession with decorative duct tape xD

I used this tutorial: http://anniespandex.com/diy/how-to-make-platform-shoes/

And no, I didn't take out the zippers. For both of my pairs, they're on the back of the shoes. I just cut up both sided on each shoe and sewed the fabric inserts in. Since they're lined, I could sandwich the insert fabric between the lining and outer.

So I love converse sneakers. They are like, the only sneakers that fit my feet and so I have owned many pairs in my few 18 years xD. I have two pairs of extra-high converse, but unfortunately I don't wear them much because my calves are larger and even though I can just lace them looser to fit, they don't look as good. Then I wanted to alter a pair of shoes into platforms, and the only shoes I had available to do something like that were my extra-highs. And then it hit me as to how to make them better for my calves: fabric inserts! So I promptly put that together, changed out the laces with new ribbons from Joanns, and then did the platform building from a tutorial I found. I used duct tape to decorate the platforms and this is what I got!

These are what I ultimately ended up with:

These are what I started with:

This is before the platforms, after the initial alterations:

And here a couple more pictures of them with the platforms:

Thanks for looking X]

I claim AlishaMisha for a pills pouch and scrap yarn!

This is my first claim this round/zero sent/zero recieved

Hi! My name is Xandria, and I'm a college student from Albany, NY. Some stuff about me:

I'm studying to be an American  Sign Language Interpreter.
-My favorite colors are pink, red, purple, and blue.
-I just finished wearing purple everyday for a year though, so it's better off used in small doses right now
-I don't like green or gold.
-My favorite animals are dinosaurs, koi fish, and owls.
-I love Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Harry Potter, and comic books. My favorite comic heroes are the X-Men, especially Gambit.
-I do ask for things that require measurments, please PM me if you want them
-I have a big head [caused partially by dreadlocks], please remember that if you choose to make a hat for me.
-I have no allergies.
-Big wishes are bolded in purple

Thank you to whoever picks me!

Crafty Wishlists:

-A hat like this:  http://pinterest.com/pin/238761217714291622/
-Dread hats; any color combo or pattern, they're great when I don't feel like dealing with my dreads and just want to cover them up xD You can find inspiration on my pinterest.
-An amigurumi with dreads:  http://pinterest.com/pin/238761217714502227/ Doesn't have to be exactly like this one, I just want a funky dolly with some funky dreads. I wanna start a whole little family X]

Sewing:
-A cuff like this one: http://pinterest.com/pin/17191538/ in shades of one of my favorite colors and white, and not in leather.
-A newsboy style hat, I have examples on my pintrest: http://pinterest.com/xandria/hair-and-head/
-A K-9 [From Doctor Who] Bag:  https://pinterest.com/pin/238761217714294597/

Paper Crafts:
-A set of dinosaur cards like these in a variety of colors: http://pinterest.com/pin/17150242/
-Origami Paper stars, as many as you feel like making in whatever color or pattern paper you want. I'm making a garland and it takes a lot of stars.
-Jointed/movable paper dolls! I collect these, and they are just so adorable. Whatever your art style, I would love it =]

General and Mixed Crafts:
-A hoop for my 'geeky' hoopla wall:  http://pinterest.com/xandria/hoopla/

-Handmade buttons, polymer clay, shrinky dink, anything will make me happy!
-Light weight scarves/headscarves. These are great for and spring. Sewn or a wide knit with light weight yarn.
-Doctor Who hair clips like these: http://pinterest.com/pin/17174221/
-Fabric flower hair clips or headbands. Bobby pin and those long barrettes are best for clips.
-Headbands in general! I like wider ones [1 1/2 or more] and don't like the hard plastic kind. Fun patterns, solid colors, over sized bows are all kinds of things I like.
-Peyote stitch beads for my hair
-A Pintrest surprise. Make sure to read the notes, some things are on there to remind me to try them or they've already been made for me. If in doubt, just ask. http://pinterest.com/xandria/
-Scrunchies! Either in pairs for pigtails or as a single larger one. When not in pairs they have to be a bit bigger then normal because they'll be holding all of my dreadlocks. Crocheted, knit, or sewn fine, fun patterns or solids =]
-Fun french style barrettes [the kind with a hinge] Medium or large sized, small has the chance of snapping open. I love the kind covered with polymer clay, but would love any unique one. There are examples in my pinterest.

19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Folded Front Skirt on: January 07, 2012 02:48:56 AM
I saw this really awesome fabric at Joann in the red tag bin when everything red tag was on sale and I had to snap it up. I've been really wanting to make more skirts to add to my wardrobe, and I thought it would be a really bright awesome addition. My mom saw the fabric and just went 'that is so horrible eighties. Fantastic, but horribly eighties'. Unfortunately they didn't have much left on the bolt at the store, so I ended up doing the back in plain black, but I'm happy with the effect =] So yeah, here it is [ignore my messy room xD]:
