31  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / finished my first knitting project: a scarf!!! on: October 21, 2009 06:39:34 PM
I am a long time crocheter and beginner knitter. (ugh.. sorry about all the er's, LOL) I picked up knitting about a year and a half ago but was too afraid to complete a project so I would just practice casting on and knitting randomly between projects. I finally started this scarf about 2 months ago, I initially meant to make the Thin Mint scarf in the DomiKNITrix book but didn't have 2 sets of circular needles and my local yarn shop didn't have another set in stock. So instead I just casted on 60 stitches and changed colors every 10 rows, there are 49 rows total and it measures 76". It kind of has a wavy/scallopy effect because I used 2 different ply yarns, both are barcellona wool I believe but the magenta one is 8 ply and the blue one is 4 ply. Anyway, thanks for looking! Smiley

I went to the Dollar Store with absolutely no idea what I was going to make on the hope that something would inspire me and I found this adorable glass bowl and decided to make it into a snow globe!! I wasn't sure what I wanted to use for the inside so I bought a nightlight and a magnet.

Here is the project

34  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / what am I doing wrong? on: August 23, 2009 10:21:45 AM
I have been crocheting for years but I am really trying to teach myself to knit so that I can make socks and scarves. I have been practicing off and on for a year now trying to get my tension right and get everything down and still haven't completed a project yet lol.

Anyway my biggest problem is my initial slip stitch, I cast on and it looks fine until I complete my first row and get to the slip stitch and then its huge and I don't know why, and I think that it may reoccur every few rows. I can take pics if needed. Any suggestions?
35  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / used purses i've painted (img heavy) on: August 20, 2009 11:08:10 PM
I wasn't really sure where to post these but this seems relevant. I haven't had much experience making purses by hand yet but I have done my share of painting purses and thought I would share.

this was the first I painted, its just a black tote bag

this was a wicker puzzle box that I converted into a purse

some random bags/purses that I painted

37  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / light bulbs make great ornaments! on: August 16, 2009 09:41:01 PM
My boyfriends mom has been painting light bulb ornaments and selling them for years. I like to recycle and paint objects so 2 years ago I decided to try it myself. Here are pictures of my hand painted light bulb ornament. I made it to look like the Mayor from Nightmare Before Christmas and he is double sided.
