121  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Dresser - To paint or not to paint? on: August 31, 2009 08:18:30 AM
I think I'm as torn as you are. Honestly it depends on the room it's going to be in. You said it would be a dresser? So it will be in your bedroom? What color is your bedroom?

If it's a color that would work with raspberry, I'm for painting. However, the dresser should then be an accent to the room. If there is very little raspberry, go with it. If the walls are raspberry, don't paint the dresser.

Also, the flooring or doors. Do they match the wood that the to-be-dresser is made of? Your bedframe? If the furniture matches the dresser, don't paint it. It will tie the room together if you have some furniture the same color of wood. If you do have wooden flooring/furniture/doors but they don't quite match the shade of the to-be-dresser, I'd suggest you just buy some stain and stain the dresser to be the right color. If it's darker than the other pieces, stain them instead, or just sand the drawer fronts and stain them to match the rest of the room.
122  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: How to Make an Ugly Gray Wall spectacular? on: August 31, 2009 08:13:14 AM
I think a very bright color would be nice. You could paint a picture frame in a neon color and hang it up to feature a black and white photo. Or, take white picture frames and put them on the grey wall, black and grey to be placed on the white walls.

You could paint an intricate pattern (like those swirling flowers) on the grey wall, or a harlequin design with either a bright purple or a bright red.

Hang colored lights across the ceiling, or have that grey wall be a display for artwork. Pin pieces of fabric, or make fabric square tiles.

I think to tie it all together, you should paint the cabinets the same green that the curtains are. That would look really nice, and really interesting because I don't think I've ever seen green cabinets before.

Best of luck!
