Details of swap:
This is a Pinterest swap, meaning that your fellow Craftsters will claim you for something you have pinned on your Pinterest site.  If you don't have a Pinterest but are interested, go here www.pinterest.com to request one or PM the organizer your email address to request an invite.

If you are late in the May swap, please do not sign up until you send. You will not be accepted. If you still have outstanding claims in any previous round, however, you can still join as long as you are not already late in sending. Also, these swaps are totally independent of each other so if you have maxed out your unreceived but not late claims in May, you can still make that number in June.

Also please note that this swap requires that you communicate with your partner and the organizer.  Please send a PM when you claim, when you send, and when you receive.  People who consistently fail to communicate will be asked to take a break from the Pinterest swap and maybe try again in two months.

Please do not post in the thread until you have been approved by the organizer. This thread is for lists only. Only post once. If you need to change/add something, simply "Modify" your post. The discussion/gallery thread is located here. Post as soon as possible after signing up so we know you have found the thread and that you are getting updates.

FAQ: Please READ

How does this swap work?
You may choose from anyone's Pinterest board once they have posted a link and bio in this thread.  This is not a chain list swap; its more of a free for all swap.  However, when possible it is nice to claim from those who haven't been claimed or who have claimed more than they have been claimed for. You have two weeks from the date you claim to send your item on its way to the lucky recipient.  Remember to PM the organizer and the recipient when you claim, send, and receive. Please include the swap name and month in your subject line! Please make sure to tell me who you are claiming, sending to, or receiving from. You may have up to 2 outstanding (not received) claims. If you are FOC you may have up to 3 outstanding claims.  Everyone MUST make at least one claim.

What should my bio and link look like?
Once you have been approved, you may post in the list thread.  There is no one way to do this but please be sure your bio includes the following:
         - your location and a brief bio (include allergies in red please)
         - your Pinterest link
         - list of boards that are to be used for this swap, or simply say something like "all my boards are game"
         - whether you are okay with supply claims

What do I need to send?
This swap is for either one medium or 2-3 small items for each claim.  A medium item is one that takes 2 or more hours, $10 - $30, some examples are a single necklace or bracelet or a scarf.  A small item is one that takes 2 or less hours, $10 or less, some examples are earrings/wallets/pouches/bookmarks.

How do the organizers ensure that claims are even?
We don't. But we do try.  One way is that we highlight your name when you have claimed more times than you have been claimed.  We ask that people claim from those that haven't been claimed yet or who have claimed more often than they have been claimed, but there is no guarantee that if you send 5 times that you will receive 5 items.  In fact, theoretically it is quite possible to not get claimed at all.  If this is a major concern for you and you know you would miserable if things were not always even, this may not be the swap for you.  However, I will say that for the most part this is not a big problem in this swap so far.

How closely does the item I send need to resemble the item pinned?
It depends on who you are claiming.  Read the bios carefully.  Read the pins carefully.  Some of us pin items for inspiration and are fine with items that are simply inspired by our pins.  Others would like the item to look as close to the pin as possible.

What happens if I am flaked on?
If you are flaked on, you will only receive an angel for as many packages as you have sent.  If you were claimed for 3 packages and you sent 2 packages and one package was flaked on - you will not receive a swap angel.

What do I do if I'm not being claimed?
If you are not being claimed, it might be time to consider your pins.  Do you have enough variety?  Are there enough small and medium items?  Do you have items pinned that require a variety of crafty mediums (ex: knitting, crocheting, sewing, beading, embroidery, etc...)?  Are your pins realistically craftable?  You should shoot for at least 20-30 pins (this includes only those pins you want to be claimed); maybe more if most of your items are on the large side or primarily in one crafty medium.  We have some talented folks on here... but not everyone can do all crafts.  If you find you aren't being claimed...try adding more pins. Annchen posted a great reply about this in the December swap that I highly encourage reading if you are not being claimed.

I hear a rumor that there is a giveaway; is this true?
YES!  It is true.  Each month, there is a giveaway.  You get one entry into the random drawing for each claim you make.  At the end of the month, we'll use a random number generator and that lucky person will receive a crafted item or crafty supply.  We cannot tell you what the item might be upfront because we like to cater it to the winner's interests and needs.  Also randomly but not necessarily every month, there might be additional giveaways so make sure to stay up to date on the discussion thread so you don't miss out!
We, as a collective of the organizer and all of the participants in the March 2013 Pinterest Swap, decided to take a break on the giveaways for a while. Maybe they will show up again if -Jexxican- gets the house she wants and her finances under control in a few months but until then, there will be no giveaway. Thanks!
For the month of June, the lovely Craftster Banga has decided to help with the giveaway! In her words "I would be happy to donate a set of notecards from my shop for this round's giveaway if you'd like. I will send a personalized set of monogrammed cards to whomever wins, ok? Like these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/129855494/personalized-plantable-seed-paper?ref=shop_home_active" Isn't that great? Go look at what's there! https://www.etsy.com/shop/jojobeandesigns Oh wow, the generosity of some C-sters just astounds me. Thanks Banga!

42  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Copy and paste? on: May 23, 2013 02:28:44 PM
So, suddenly when I copy and paste it leaves a big "Read More: [insert giant link here]" bs message afterwards? Why is that? I mean, just copying and pasting from my personal messages into the body of a thread it does that, like 90% of the time! WHY? Since I can't just drag and drop from one tab in my browser tot he next anymore thanks to the improvements in the photo service, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V have become even more important to me and now that's even starting to piss me off. Why does it do that? I mean, I get that when you copy and paste something from C-ster into another site you guys still want it to link back here, but it's really annoying when just copying and pasting within the site itself.

45  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Granny Lapghan on: April 27, 2013 09:31:39 PM
My MIL gave me a huge tote of yarn after destashing her house. My husband said she always had year but he never saw her do anything with it. Hm. So I got it all. She loves pink, which was very apparent in this tote of yarn. I decided I should use some of it and since she spends all of her time at her house on the couch we decided I should make a lapghan for her. Better than other stuff I could make, right? I had 1 skein dark pink, 2 medium pink, and 3 light pink so that's the pattern I went with, tossing in some of my own white. 123212321232123... I think there are 33 roungs all together? That was a lot of dcs on the latter rounds...

I didn't measure it but I would say it's a good 36-40 inches across. It reminds me of those Jello desserts we had back in the say that would separate into the different layers of pink.
46  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / 8 year Tie skirt! on: April 27, 2013 09:23:42 PM
I know I'm hardly original around here with this but this has been in progress for 8 years! Seriously, when we moved here almost 7 years ago I thought it was lost and then I found it at the end of the year 2012 in the shed on top of everything. It was like the freakin' gnomes stole it, got bored with it, and put it back. Freakin' gnomes.

The side/finishing aren't as great as they could have been but meh, whatever. It's DONE! That's what counts, right?

I would so have worn this all the time when I was in college, 8 years ago, but now not so much. So I called my mom to ask if my 16 year old niece who lives with her would wear it and she was like "Eee, I don't know" so I got her waste measurement anyway (which happens to be the same as mine), finished it, and when we went down to visit last month asked Amber (the niece) "If I made a skirt out of ties would you wear it?" and she looked at me like I was crazy for asking such a question. Duh! Hell yeah she would! So there you go, I made a 16 year old happy.

Also, my 3 year old took those action shots of it. Isn't she good?
47  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday 12 April 2013 on: April 12, 2013 04:15:30 PM
Let's start with lots of Rain! The spin along this month is April Showers so here's what I did.

Rain Clouds at Twilight, dyed this one last week and spun it up last weekend. First the roving for reference:

Close up so you can see the "rain drops:

~145 yards, 5.4oz

Then a Thunderhead! Some lady at the fiber guild had some yarn that I guess she was trying to use as warp but it got all messed up and she was going to toss it but decided to bring it to the group to use as a "what not to do" example and I decided to take it home with me. I was totally thinking about the spin along and it looked like a thunderhead to me. I corespun it and while it took up the entire large bobbin I only got about 40 yards.

This was a batt I carded last year that reminded me of the spin along because it was blue and white and brown, like rain and mud! I plied it with a single of some undyed Punta.

And now for something completely different! You haven't seen this one yet because it wasn't spun for the spin a long. It was just some fiber I had that's been staring at me from my hammock for a while and decided to jump at me and demand to be spun! What's funny is that at first it was like "Spin me thick and thin, thick and thin I say!" and then when I started on the second half it was like "NO! Make me thin and pretty. That's all I really want in life!"  so I had to go back and unspin and respin the first part because the damn fiber couldn't make up it's mind! I like it now, though. We've come to understand each other. Not saying only thin things are pretty, I'm OK with some chunks, but this silk/polworth wasn't. Get made at the sheep and worms, not me, y'all, OK?

Other than all of that this week I have also finished a t-shirt quilt, started a tie skirt, fed my children, and my house is not too horrible! Hurrah productivity!
48  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / T-shirt quilt OR My first completed quilt! on: April 12, 2013 03:47:31 PM
I've made a few tops before and they are all still waiting for backs, but I got in a fight with my husband Saturday night about my "hobbies" vs what I really do all day with the kids while he's at work so Sunday I decided not to do anything except make this quilt. I had all the shirts already pulled out (from my Spring cleaning, which must be one of my "hobbies") and since I woke up at 4:15 to the Roomba I went to town cutting them all up. They were all pretty important to me at one time or another but for various reasons I couldn't wear any of them anymore.

I know usually quilt backs are not pieced like this but some of the important parts of some of the shirts we on the back. So the backs of the shirts correlate with the fronts. Does that make sense?

The only real designing I did was that the dark shirts were lined up in the middle (since I happened to have 5 of them) and what I said earlier about the backs matching up with the fronts. Other than that it was all just grab and go!
The ties are strips of one of the shirts. All I used for the quilt were those 15 shirts and most of 2 more I would never wear again. And thread, duh. But nothing else! Yay! How's that for a hobby/destash project?
49  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / More ladybugs and some rain on: April 05, 2013 09:38:37 AM
Since everyone else is just posting their own stuff not as FFs I guess I won't either.

Since March's spin-along was Ladybugs I made MORE! I had mroe black and red and I felt like it. See? I really liked the inverted so I got more of that. Both of the top skeins are 270 yards each, ran, eh? And the bottom red is ~ 200 yards because that's all I had left in the red. The blacks are further apart but it's still there.

And since April's spin-along is April Showers I decided to dye some roving for it. I dyed it in the crock pot using leftover Easter dye. I remembered to save it this time! First I chained it and dyed it in the crock pot with blue and purple, adding some pink so the purple would show up. I injected the dye using syringes. That's always fun!

This picture shows how the chaining affected it, leaving some white spots. I love that!

And then I dumped some black food coloring into the leftover vinegar water from when I was soaking it, diluted it a bit more, then dumped it in the crock pot and left it on high for about 4 hours. Talking with Belladune about it I was worried it wouldn't color it right because black likes to fracture but it came out exactly how I wanted.  I call it Rain Clouds at Twilight. Now I need to figure out how to spin it!
