21  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / FOUND 1 angel needed Ongoing Pinterest Swap on: September 29, 2013 09:27:05 PM
We need one angel for Ladybugsandbumblebe es (from the USA) in the August Ongoing Pinterest Swap. Her bio can be found here. Angel would need to make the equivalent of 1 medium from Barbara's Pinterest boards. Thanks!
22  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / POP! Yarn on: September 13, 2013 02:50:39 PM
I want my own thread for these 2.

I got some Merino from eBay and it's amazing. I got this idea first for the black and then the white but I spun the white first because I already had a bobbin full of white. It was spun like my ladybug yarn, with 1 ply being solid and the other having random bursts of the other color(s) and then when I plied I did it right so the POPS are coiled. And awesome.
The white isn't Merino, but the deep colors are. I think the white is mostly Punta but also other random bits of wool. 9.3 oz, ~300 yards

All of the black and neon colors are Merino, and amazing! And apparently the sun came out while I took this pic. I promise the neon bits aren't glowing, though that would be cool if they were. ~4oz and 130 yards

23  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Saturday, 7 Sep 13 on: September 07, 2013 05:02:37 PM
Here's what I've been spinning at the market the last 3 weeks:

2 weeks ago, ~50 yards, alpaca, bamboo, silk noil plied with Punta

Last week, red: ~80 yards faux cashmere, wool, firestar plied with Punta
blue: ~90 yards Alpaca, Merino, Cashmere, silk, plied with Punta

And this week. 8oz merino, specially ordered for one of the other vendors. ~170 yards.

Details of swap:
This is a Pinterest swap, meaning that your fellow Craftsters will claim you for something you have pinned on your Pinterest site.  If you don't have a Pinterest but are interested, go here www.pinterest.com to request one or PM the organizer your email address to request an invite.

If you are late in the August swap, please do not sign up until you send. You will not be accepted. If you still have outstanding claims in any previous round, however, you can still join as long as you are not already late in sending. Also, these swaps are totally independent of each other so if you have maxed out your unreceived but not late claims in last month's swap, you can still make that number this month. Also, the swap organizer reserves the right to refuse participation to those C-sters that she does not feel can meet the requirements or that do not jive well with the group.

Also please note that this swap requires that you communicate with your partner and the organizer.  Please send a PM when you claim, when you send, and when you receive.  People who consistently fail to communicate will be asked to take a break from the Pinterest swap and maybe try again in two months.

Please do not post in the thread until you have been approved by the organizer. This thread is for lists only. Only post once. If you need to change/add something, simply "Modify" your post. The discussion/gallery thread is located here. Post as soon as possible after signing up so we know you have found the thread and that you are getting updates.

FAQ: Please READ

How does this swap work?
You may choose from anyone's Pinterest board once they have posted a link and bio in this thread.  This is not a chain list swap; its more of a free for all swap.  However, when possible it is nice to claim from those who haven't been claimed or who have claimed more than they have been claimed for. You have two weeks from the date you claim to send your item on its way to the lucky recipient.  Remember to PM the organizer and the recipient when you claim, send, and receive. Please include the swap name and month in your subject line! Please make sure to tell her who you are claiming, sending to, or receiving from. You may have up to 2 outstanding (not received) claims. If you are FOC you may have up to 3 outstanding claims.  Everyone MUST make at least one claim.

What should my bio and link look like?
Once you have been approved, you may post in the list thread.  There is no one way to do this but please be sure your bio includes the following:
         - your location and a brief bio (include allergies in red please)
         - your Pinterest link
         - list of boards that are to be used for this swap, or simply say something like "all my boards are game"
         - whether you are okay with supply claims

What do I need to send?
This swap is for either one medium or 2-3 small items for each claim.  A medium item is one that takes 2 or more hours, $10 - $30, some examples are a single necklace or bracelet or a scarf.  A small item is one that takes 2 or less hours, $10 or less, some examples are earrings/wallets/pouches/bookmarks.

How do the organizers ensure that claims are even?
We don't. But we do try.  One way is that we highlight your name when you have claimed more times than you have been claimed.  We ask that people claim from those that haven't been claimed yet or who have claimed more often than they have been claimed, but there is no guarantee that if you send 5 times that you will receive 5 items.  In fact, theoretically it is quite possible to not get claimed at all.  If this is a major concern for you and you know you would miserable if things were not always even, this may not be the swap for you.  However, I will say that for the most part this is not a big problem in this swap so far.

How closely does the item I send need to resemble the item pinned?
It depends on who you are claiming.  Read the bios carefully.  Read the pins carefully.  Some of us pin items for inspiration and are fine with items that are simply inspired by our pins.  Others would like the item to look as close to the pin as possible.

What happens if I am flaked on?
If you are flaked on, you will only receive an angel for as many packages as you have sent.  If you were claimed for 3 packages and you sent 2 packages and one package was flaked on - you will not receive a swap angel.

What do I do if I'm not being claimed?
If you are not being claimed, it might be time to consider your pins.  Do you have enough variety?  Are there enough small and medium items?  Do you have items pinned that require a variety of crafty mediums (ex: knitting, crocheting, sewing, beading, embroidery, etc...)?  Are your pins realistically craftable?  You should shoot for at least 20-30 pins (this includes only those pins you want to be claimed); maybe more if most of your items are on the large side or primarily in one crafty medium.  We have some talented folks on here... but not everyone can do all crafts.  If you find you aren't being claimed...try adding more pins. Annchen posted a great reply about this in the December swap that I highly encourage reading if you are not being claimed.

I hear a rumor that there is a giveaway; is this true?
YES!  It is true.  Each month, there is a giveaway.  You get one entry into the random drawing for each claim you make.  At the end of the month, we'll use a random number generator and that lucky person will receive a crafted item or crafty supply.  We cannot tell you what the item might be upfront because we like to cater it to the winner's interests and needs.  Also randomly but not necessarily every month, there might be additional giveaways so make sure to stay up to date on the discussion thread so you don't miss out! Rscowtown has graciously offered up a prize for the September 2013 Swap! Thanks Laurel!

26  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Sheep to scarf on: August 23, 2013 05:36:51 PM

I've already been posting progress pics of the yarn in the Spinning boards so I thought I would share the whole shebang on these boards.

It started like this. Well, 3 of these:

And then I picked and scoured and it was still nasty so I said F it all and carded it up into these:

Spun it into singles at the market. While in this phase a man was talking to me and told me he wanted me to make him a scarf, didn't even want me to wash it. Just a real "Man's scarf" with the dirt and VM and lanolin all kept in there.

Made it 2 ply:

Wound it into balls using a swift and ball winder. Had 4 of these at 200-300 yards each plus a little 27 yard skein.

And crocheted it up into this basket weave scarf using this pattern from ravelry.

It is super thick and dirty and stinky and greasy but this is basically exactly what I gathered the guy wanted. I hope he likes it. It's about 9" wide by about 65 inches long. I forgot to weight it. Oops.

29  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Monkeys Monkeys MONKEYS! *updated 7/25!* *updated 8/23!* on: July 12, 2013 02:20:16 PM
I'm on a monkey kick lately. They are great for birthday presents. I learned how to make them when TitaniamHip sent me 2 in my first ever most fabulous Craftster swap. (And when I say learned I mean I say it and I wanted more so I figured it out. Like a good little Craftster, right?) Way too many pics. Deal with it, K? Because you love me?

These 3 were made for my friends' kids, all 3 had birthdays in June.

For Hay:

For Layne: (I almost put sparkly stars on the chest but decided a 3 year old doesn't need a stripper monkey)

For Dilly: No buttons because she's only 1

My neighbors had 2 birthdays, also in June:
For Isaac: buttons on buttons!

For Makayla:

I was going to use these 2 as toy drops but then some random people from church invited us o their birthdays and I was like "S***! What to do for gifts? Oh, MONKEYS!"

Look, I used a crochet hook to give him a top-knot and a beard, because these socks had been used and had patches worth covering. He also has eyebrows! EYEBROWS! On a sock monkey!

And for his friend: this one used baby knee high socks. Did you know they made knee highs for babies? Neither did I! But they do! And they make the most adorable little sock monkeys EVER! And the little kid probably doesn't even appreciate him, figures, right?

And the rest are going to the Farmer's Market with me tomorrow! Wee! I figure since it's starting on July 13th of 2013 I should have 13 monkeys, eh? Maybe it's coincidence but maybe not? Anywho, here they are all set up as I hope they will be at the market in the morning:

Super Monkey with removable mask...

... and cape

One of my faves: G thinks this one looks like Groucho Marx and is mad I haven't made a mustache for him yet. Hat courtesy of that toilet paper roll hat tute here on C-ster.

This guy is snazzy:

Why is this pic so fuzzy? What the hell? I don't care that much about this guy anyway. I could not get a personality on him! His eyes are stars, though.

Mike, the cancer monkey:

One of my faves:

Button courtesy of Zombie Queen in a MYB swap:

And I have 7 more in the works. When I make them en masse like this I do each step for each monkey all at once. Like I started with 7 pair of socks and I went through and cut each pair into the necessary 7 pieces, then I stitched each pair, then I turned each pair... Now I need to stuff them all and then I get to do the hand stitching (ugh, least favorite part), and then I get to give them personalities! That's the best part, though also the most time consuming and often the most aggravating. I'm a little OCD.

Thanks for looking! Hope you enjoyed them. I do!

*UPDATED 7/25/13*
I'm still making them (19 in 8 days, I know some of you are getting tired of hearing it but ACK!) and I don't want to waste another post with them but I still want them to be seen. Well, most of them. I've posted more pics on page 2. Not each one gets it's own pic this time, but they are still there! Love them!
