171  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Apple Bucket Pin Up on: October 15, 2010 06:28:59 AM
I was in the Pin Up swap and I wanted to make an apron for my partner and I found some apple fabric in my stash and hey, she made candy apples for a living so what better fabric? So I looked for an image that would work and found this. Dude, I hope I don't get in trouble for embroidering it.

Yay! learning to embroider is fun!
172  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Checker board on: October 15, 2010 06:07:14 AM
Disclaimer: I'm not a quilter.

I found a tute for felting stones at Resurrection Fern and really wanted to make them but I can't just make things to be pretty (usually) so I decided to make a lot of them, dye them in Kool-Aid, and make a checker's board to go with them. For my niece. For Christmas. (mind you I thought of this in like May or June)

So I attempted a mini quilt a couple weeks ago for the checkers board! AH! Not great, but it serves it's purpose AND I don't even have to wrap it. Check it out:

There's 3 different shades of rock per side, but you can tell they are all supposed to be pink/blue.

All wrapped up for Christmas! The ribbon is sewn into the side.

Kinged!
173  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday 15 Oct 2010 on: October 15, 2010 05:25:05 AM
I have never started one but here I go! I am so excited!
First, the less exciting one: I got some blacks from the Sheep Shed Studio and the last of them have been sitting in my drawer for some time now so I pull them out, spun 'em up, and started to loom-knit a scarf (cause I was excited!) and then I ran out and now I am waiting for more...

AND NOW THE EXCITING STUFF! A lady I know from MOPS gave me some fleece last year right off her own sheep that her dad won't let her wash SO...
I washed it.
I carded some of it (I think I need combs instead of cards).
I spun it.
I plied it.
And since there was still some grassy stuff in there, I set the twist using tea instead of regular water so it hides the gunk and gives it a really nice sepia tone.
FINAL PRODUCT:

and for a better sense of the color:

Disclaimer: I know this might not be all the great compared to some of you veteran sheep washers but I am really proud of this yarn! It has lots of the little tiny bumps of wool and is very "slubby" but that's why I said maybe I need combs?

This swap is to celebrate those unknown or unusual holidays. Each swapper will chose 6 holidays from the lists provided. Each partner will choose from those 6 holidays and craft 3 small items for their partner. A small item is defined as: by time-2 or less hours; by size-earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks, magnets; by price-$10 or less. U.S. packages MUST have a DC#, and international packages must have a receipt. Please provide both to the organizer when you ship. Shipping priority is suggested but not a requirement.

In order for this to be a monthly swap we MUST have a fast turn around time. Due to the fast turn around time, the organizer reserves the right to not add someone to the swap if there has been a documented history of repeated late sending. Please do not sign up for this swap unless you are prepared to send on time, if not early, and post pictures as soon as your package arrives.

Communication is a must! You must check in on the original thread and the gallery thread at least once a week. You also must check in with your partner once a week. Poor communication or lack thereof will be noted in feedback.  You MUST PM Jexxican with your questionnaire,  received, late sending, and any other questions or concerns.

When PMing the organizer please start pms with the following:  MOH October

176  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Roller derby, Odd holidays, and a dragonfly on: August 28, 2010 03:33:38 PM
This is everything I've completed since my first embroidery, found here
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=356614.msg4176075#msg4176075

First up, for the 3rd package on the Make a Friend swap I embroidered the logo for the roller derby league my new friend is a part of. I had a hard time on the face on the face and the skates. Meh, I'm learning.

For the latest odd holiday swap (September) I embroidered some mushrooms on an apron for Mushroom month:

I don't know if I did so many French knots because I like them or if I told myself I would like them because I had already planned it that way.

And this is one of the things I made for Punctuation Day next month. It was a lot of fun!

And for my pen pal (whom I met through Post Secret) I made a very simple negative space dragonfly!

And I'm almost done with something for another swap I'm in but I can't post pics yet because I can't! AH! I like it, though. Be expecting something new (and totally awesome if I don't mess it up completely) from me in a few weeks!
177  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Well knock me down and steel muh teef! on: August 14, 2010 11:40:55 AM

Translation: "Well, knock me down and steal my teeth!"
This is my first ever embroidery! I made it back in June for the July Odd Holiday American Redneck Day. Sent it for a swap. Whadya think?
178  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Dragon Castle Puzzle, Rawr on: June 16, 2010 07:59:52 AM
I think this should go here, just because I don't know where else to put it.
It's an altered puzzle.

I made it for the MYB 13: Themes swap. Each of the pieces was wrapped in the ball individually. The board, obviously, couldn't fit in the ball but it was still there in the box. She likes it.
It's mostly painted but I did cheat a little and use a sharpie on some of the tiles. What do you think?
179  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / What to do with these? on: April 24, 2010 06:36:30 PM
So I bought some yarn from the sheep shed studio, and I should have just gotten the whites but I ended up getting 1 lb browns and 1 lb blacks. This is what they sent me:

It's interesting, but not what I was expecting, but then again I didn't really know what to expect. The 1 lb grab bag is an entirely different story.
So here's my question: What should do with it? Should I draft it and spin it like normal on my spindle? I did about 2 oz of the black already and it came out pretty nice so I'll probably do enough of that to make a nice bag or something, but what else to do with it? Learn? Any advice? Any suggestions? Anyone have an epiphany while looking at these that they need to share?
180  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Artisan Bread -Challah on: April 06, 2010 06:54:00 AM
