3341  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Checker board on: October 15, 2010 06:07:14 AM
Disclaimer: I'm not a quilter.

I found a tute for felting stones at Resurrection Fern and really wanted to make them but I can't just make things to be pretty (usually) so I decided to make a lot of them, dye them in Kool-Aid, and make a checker's board to go with them. For my niece. For Christmas. (mind you I thought of this in like May or June)

So I attempted a mini quilt a couple weeks ago for the checkers board! AH! Not great, but it serves it's purpose AND I don't even have to wrap it. Check it out:

There's 3 different shades of rock per side, but you can tell they are all supposed to be pink/blue.

All wrapped up for Christmas! The ribbon is sewn into the side.

Kinged!

I think I will wist this.
3343  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fiber Friday 15 Oct 2010 on: October 15, 2010 05:25:05 AM
I have never started one but here I go! I am so excited!
First, the less exciting one: I got some blacks from the Sheep Shed Studio and the last of them have been sitting in my drawer for some time now so I pull them out, spun 'em up, and started to loom-knit a scarf (cause I was excited!) and then I ran out and now I am waiting for more...

AND NOW THE EXCITING STUFF! A lady I know from MOPS gave me some fleece last year right off her own sheep that her dad won't let her wash SO...
I washed it.
I carded some of it (I think I need combs instead of cards).
I spun it.
I plied it.
And since there was still some grassy stuff in there, I set the twist using tea instead of regular water so it hides the gunk and gives it a really nice sepia tone.
FINAL PRODUCT:

and for a better sense of the color:

Disclaimer: I know this might not be all the great compared to some of you veteran sheep washers but I am really proud of this yarn! It has lots of the little tiny bumps of wool and is very "slubby" but that's why I said maybe I need combs?

Is that supposed to be the Death of Rats? How happy you make me!
3345  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday (Saturday?) 10.08.10 on: October 10, 2010 03:02:02 PM
Beautiful! I am loving that "Crazy Girl!" Purple and sparkles for me! Funny, I might not have admitted that before having a baby girl...

Morrigan, that doesn't look too squishy but it does look like it wants to be joined into my stash and someday made into something wonderful.

I have yarn to post this week that I am really really proud of but I haven't uploaded my pics yet! AH! Maybe I will get up them up for next Fiber Friday? Remember before when I was saying I needed cards before I got to spinning again? Well, I GOT THEM! You will see next week... So excited!
3346  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: The Dark Tower Swap (signup 9/19/10 - 10/09/10; send out 11/08/10) on: October 04, 2010 04:11:13 AM
I was totally planning on signing up but I think this is one of those ones I would like to create for but not necessarily receive for, if that makes sense. Also, since I missed the Fill a Stocking swap I've decided to be on swap hiatus so.. I'm sorry! I hope it's great!
3347  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: October Monthly Odd Holidays (MOH) (SOs Sep 22) on: October 04, 2010 04:08:34 AM
Thanks everyone for a fun swap! I think this is the last MOH for a while but if anyone else wants to start them up again, let me know!

I posted feedback, but my child hit the enter bar before I could leave comments for everyone. You all did great though. How did I do as an organizer?

3349  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: October MOH Gallery on: September 28, 2010 12:03:28 PM
According to me, my computer sucks.

According to my PMs, everyone has sent but we still have 2 that have not received, is that right sloanlaw and squire_inaria?

After I get word that everyone has received I will do all the feedback all at once.

You want to do this again for November anyone? I will not be here for it, swap break until the new year AT LEAST, so if someone else wants to organize that would be great. I will still be making the Calenders each month so... Oh, who wants October's calender? I will try to get it done today, but no promises considering my computer is dying. Stupid computer...
3350  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: October MOH Gallery on: September 27, 2010 02:47:21 PM
Oh wow, hawk eyes girl really did a good job. So anxious! I know mine for her is nothing that great, but that's why I'm on swap hiatus for a while...

I received from Najaorama!
There was no note so let's see if I can place each of the items with their OH.

For ROCKtober there are some great guitars for my wreath along with a Rex Manning Day ornament:

For dictionary day, a hot pad (?) with a word for each letter with great definitions like "Jury: Twelve men chosen to decide who has the better lawyer" and "Keyhole: a frequent test for sobriety." The backing fabric makes me happy.

And as an extra she sent some picture stickers for Free Thought day (I think).
