3211  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Embroidery Hoopla Round 4 on: January 18, 2011 09:27:28 AM
Although the travelling embroidery swap is an interesting idea, it seems like a flaker or lost package really messes things up.  Even when you get an angel, you're not getting the full idea of the swap, right?  One person creates a finished product rather than the swapper getting the combined efforts of 2 or 3 other crafters.
Plus, it makes for a fairly long swap right?  One of the things I like about this swap is the almost instant gratification Smiley - the gallery gets going pretty quickly and (well, with the exception of round 2), wraps up pretty quickly.

I know we are already planning 3 rounds out, but how about an Embroider my Favorite Quote round?
Maybe a req for the angel would be that they have to get at least one other person they know to stitch on it too! EH?

I don't know about the whole favorite quote thing. I don't have a favorite quote. But it doesn't matter because we already have the next 2 round planned: diptychs and clocks, right? we should save future ruminations for the time they are needed.

Slingmomma, your eyes in the action shot are so alluring. It's like the scarf makes you feel things you've never felt before! Ooh la la!  AND oh my, pretty sparkly fiber, I'm jealous. What a great package!

I think what quiltykate made was some mind blowing awesome, too. sure, ilove the tentabcle, but everyone's posting about that (because it's so awesome). I could never do anything like either, to be honest, so I am blown.

That's very nice. The pink and gray go great together. Where did you get the wool? I, too, like the tag. I recently learned to print on fabric using my usual HP ink-jet printer for embroidery pattern transfers (by ironing it onto some freezer paper), but I think using it for tags is very novel.

Done with Game mom42s book! Now I just need to dig around for extras. My fingers hurt, though, so maybe tomorrow.

Muppy, I love the 4 step photos! Sometimes people dont really understand how much goes into making these things or dont see how we go from point A to point D. Heck, sometimes I don't understand. That's the kind of hat that I would call priceless because of all the time I can see that went into it.

What I don't understand is if Firefly is so great, why did they take it off the air before the first season was even over?! I will admit, I did not want to watch Firefly but my husband made me and after seeing the first episode, I was hooked. Greatness unparalleled! I am glad for all of the tribute embroideries in this swap. They make me happy and sad at the same time. But why no Kaylee? She was MY favorite.

Too many great pieces to verbally love on them all.

A note about the Hellraiser TMNT,I printed the turtle and quote straight from a meme on Disposable Actor's deviant art. If she likes it so much it's her own fault, I just copied.

Beautiful yarns gals!

Jexx, congrats on the wheel!  What kind?  Have you ever over dyed blk/white yarn?  They come out great!  I love what Carol offers at the Sheep Shed.  It's actually quality fiber, much of it from Brown Sheep who makes premium sock yarn.

I've been spinning boring old brown shetland to weave into a horse blanket for my DH.  Nothing special!
I got an Ashford Traveler. I think I might want to rub it with some tung oil someday to give it a little more luster, but overall I think it's great fun.
I love the Sheep Shed fiber, too. I want to try dying it but I have a lot of other things going on right now. So much to learn, so little time, ya know? It is good fiber to learn on, though, I think, because it is so cheap but it still makes good yarn.

Ooh, tasty Asian extras, I am excited!

I got mine all cut out today, just need to start stitching. Well, my iron needs to heat up first so I can something with it before I start the stitching, but then I'll be ready to go. This is the real first step and I hate it! But I will love it once I get into it, I know I will. Wait, where is the iron?
