3111  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Embroidery Hoopla R3 - OTT Edition Gallery on: February 13, 2011 09:16:44 AM
Thanks for the explanation... I didn't understand why or how a hat got it's name. Now I do!!! So, what comic strip, show, or cartoon is that dialog from?Huh Can you tell I'm a little over the hill?
I'm going to have lots of left-over yarn in about 13 colors soon, when I'm done with my sampler afghan. I'm thinking that some of it just may end up as "Jayne hats".
As for the embroidery... I really love the steampunk stuff, and that hat. The knitting texture is so perfect. Anything that begins to take on a 3-D look.
I really love the ones with bits of things sewn on. Great for broken jewelry bits.
FIREFLY! I so did not want to watch that show when my husband bought  it, but as soon as we got through the pilot episode, I was hooked. And they canceled it before the first season was over. SadSadSadSad But they did get a movie made from it.
Not just any yarn scraps will do. They have to be yellow and orange. Chunky /thick and thin is preferred, I would think

I've been thinking I need to learn to knit, but only since I started spinning. Knitting takes less yarn than crochet, would make my handspun go further, no?

We took a day trip to Ruidoso today and I saw a guy with a knit hat on and I told my husband 'If that hat were orange I would be tempted to say "A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything."' And he proceeded to berate me for not knowing how to knit because I can't make him a bad ass hat like that. Maybe I shouldn't learn knitting just to spite him?

My head is exploding with ideas. I love it when that happens! I think this swap is going to be very easy for me. Thanks LimeRiot and RobbinZombie (is that your name? I forget easily) for both being so awesome.

I am so glad we have so many new FF posters! They are all beautiful. That chocolate covered valentine is great, and LaughingLark, seriously, you inspire me. I should try new things more often.

I was kind of hoping to beat the record for most participants, but I guess we missed it. Damn!
3116  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: fiber stash storage on: February 11, 2011 07:51:09 PM
You can get rid of some of it by sending it to me!
Mine is mostly shoved in a drawer in the bottom of one of my craft chests in my daughter's room. It's amazing how much that stuff can be compacted! I don't have a real solution for you, though my first statement was in all seriousness.

MLF, you are wonderful with your words of wisdom and encouragement. I liek the dust bunnies comment. I don't like dust bunnies, though I have been seriously contemplating a real bunny for Adopt a rescued Rabbit month so I can harvest the fur, but I think I already mentioned that.

Hippie, as if I weren't already jealous of your talent in the FF threads, now you are inspiring me to learn to knit as well! Just what I need, another craft! At least I would only have to buy needles for it, seeing as I'm already full of yarn (and multiplying on that front)! I do noticed that to get a good shot of the baby, you had to get her asleep. I know how that goes.

Ah, Fridays, how I love your pornographic fiber-y goodness!

3119  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: What are you giving your mail carrier? on: February 11, 2011 08:34:08 AM
Dharma PMed me asking if I gave it or not and I figured I would share here.
I did end up putting this out in the mail, in a big enveloped that just said "To: My Usual Postman" and inside it just had a note that said "Thank YOU!" with it. He didn't say anything about it, but the blinds were open when he came that day and the look on his face was very confused. Like "Why am I getting mail from this crazy lady?" He didn't open it, he is one of the ones the actually walks the neighborhood so his hands were full, but I was amused nonetheless. I don't think he will say anything about it, but he is a nice man so I'm glad I gave it to him.

Not much to share this week but I figured I may as well get this started, right?
I finally got some wool combs to help me process the fleece that one of the ladies from my MOPS group gave me last year! I already had to rave about them to Belledune. I got small basket full and ecided I was done with that, I wanted to spin! I was going to take a picture of the basket full but got a little impatient so here's the first little "nest" I made with some of the fleece for reference:

And What I have spun so far:

I think I'm going to try to Navajo ply (?) it after I spin a bunch more and watch some videos on that technique.
I also got my first Niddy Noddy this past week. Haven't used it yet, but I'm excited!
