2581  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Magic Yarn Ball Swap Round 15 *SU untill Oct.17/11 SO Nov.14/11* on: October 15, 2011 08:27:31 AM
I angelled an MYB to New Zealand one time and it cost me over $50 USD, which according to Google is about ~36Euros. That was when I decided international was not worth it!

From "Knitter's Review" I've found this quote about Soy Silk:
Quote
Soy Silk is an environmentally friendly fiber made from tofu manufacturing waste. Soy protein is liquefied and then extruded into long, continuous fibers that are then cut and processed like any other spinning fiber.
It's been around for a long time, several sources mentioned Henry Ford in a Soy Silk Suit in the '40's.
You can find tons of info on it by Googling "Soy Silk Fiber." And lots of dealers! I got mine from Zebisis Designs on etsy when I ordered my latest spindle. She tossed it in for free! I need to get working on that. *sigh* I overwork myself searching for my "spark."

You're amazing. I was only 3. I don't remember my Popple very well, but I am pretty sure I had one.

*wiggle* I can be patient for three more days.

Also, Tree, if you're still lurking this thread, I found this gorgeous soy-silk yarn that's really soft and pretty. I didn't see anything that marked it as vegan, but soy is from a plant right?

Does it contain silk, though, or are they just calling it "silk"? Silk comes from silk worms, and they die in the process, so that part wouldn't be vegan...
No, soy-silk doesn't have any silk in it. It's just what they call it. It's soy and really silky. I have some of the fiber. Pain in the a** to spin!

I made these for the Sock Monkey Swap. Usually I don't re-post what has already been posted in the swap boards, but I love these guys! I've made SMs before but I've never dressed them. For this lovely couple, I bought a 3 pack of socks and pretty much used all them. Very little scraps involved (happy!). I made them brown because redrinnie prefers natural woodsy colors. And one of the themes she wanted was Roaring '20's. It was her first swap. From the photo shoot she did with them I think she liked them. She named them Bradford and Olivia so here they are.
Bradford:

My fear of the hat was what kept them from getting out sooner. I think it came out OK. My husband think it makes him look like a hobo.
Olivia:

She looks super skinny, but that's cool because that was totally sexy back in the '20's. I know, I took a class on it.
The happy couple together:

I'm really happy with how they came out. Except the eyes. The eyes have no personality or feeling. I think if I had made the eyes better then they would really have come to life.
Thoughts? Q&C&C?

Thanks Bella!
1987?
Don't lie to me. The respun stuff is not lovely. It's just better than it was. Thanks though.

Wow with the "black!"
Bella, that is some pretty nice lace weight. I have nothing to offer as for what to make, though.

Here's what I spun almost 2 weeks ago.

local wool, the rest of what I Easter dyed back in March. hand carded, woolen, N-ply.

And this is that stuff I got that was really really really badly spun. I unspun it, respun it much thinner though still thick and thin a bit, and plied it. So far I have 190 yards

The DC# is always good, but this was the number from the customs form. No choice but to have that on there! It did the same thing when I sent to the Czech Republic in another swap. 3 weeks it told me "Still in your PO" and then showed up for my partner. That's why I usually don't want to send I'nat'l. But then again, US to Canada isn't usually this bad. For me at least...

Yay Margiej is back!
Oh noes! my package to Jez_1982 is STILL saying it's sitting in my PO. HATRED! Why get a tracking number if it won't track?!
