2511  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Rd. 7 (signups Sept. 12-Oct 1.; sendouts Dec. 1) on: November 12, 2011 02:05:38 PM
I always forget how much I like working with Hand-spun yarn. I made a small today for PP, first time I've used this technique. Then I started making a hat but decided the colors would work much better for a very small girl rather than a very grown woman so I frogged 1/2 of it and finished it in the Toddlers' size for my Alice. While it's one less idea I have for PP, it's also one less idea I need for my 2 year old!
I don't think this will be too hard to finish from where I am. While I haven't made too much, I have bought a whole lot and have lots more ideas. The stocking will be the hardest. And who knows, maybe I have more made and less bought that I think. I have a tendency to just toss things in the designated "stocking swap" bag. Maybe I should go through it. Maybe I should make these _____ first and then go through it. Yeah, that's the plan.
2512  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Post about Scraps (I think) on: November 12, 2011 12:40:58 PM
UPDATE: My bag of super small scraps was listed on Free Cycle and holy crap, within 2 hours of it being posted I had probably 5 or 6 requests for it! I was amazed.

I've also been getting rid of some of the fabric in swaps and stuff (and real projects, what a concept!) so I have a lot less. Like, that clear plastic tote on there is only 1/2 full of fabric now. Yay!

I've found a few really great tutes for small scraps of fabric lately. This pinecone ball tutorial actually requires a lot of 2" squares, but I've started making them and I think they would be great scrappy. And this Tangram-esque Squares tute is great too. I've made one set for my nephews using mostly solids and I plan on making another for my kids using patterned fabrics. I also plan on making matching bags for each set. Also, I haven't made these yet but I am so making tonnes of these little birds for my huge tree when it gets naked this year.

And on another stash related note, though it's not fabric, 1/2 of the shelf in my closet is full up to the ceiling with candle making stuff that my sister wanted me to have and I thought i would use but never did and want to get rid of so another sister said Hells Yeah she'll take it! We are taking it down with us for T-day and she will most likely make Christmas presents with it all. I'm so happy it will get used!

Hey all, sorry it will be a couple of hours before I can send questionnaires...I will get to it as soon as I can, but I had to leave the house for a while.
I think partners are more important, Lesley. Come on!

I was going through my fabric stash for another swap recently and I realized that I have never owned any Christmas Fabric at all! Wait, I think I have some FQ scraps that I got as part of a lot in a silent auction last year, maybe, but that's it! Bah! Sure, bring on the partners, who am I to complain? I can still make it Christmas-y/wintery without such fabrics, right? Hurray embellishments!

Yay! I'm so glad you seem to like it all. Those yoga socks aren't too big?! Are you sure? It was my first time doing socks of any kind.

Shh, yeaaaah, about that handspun I sent... I'm going need that back so if you could get that back in the mail tomorrow that would be greaaaat... Sorry, channeling a little Office Space there. I'm totally kidding, but seriously, why is it when I put supplies in a swap package within a week I think of a perfect project for it? Bah! I think I have another yarn that will work. I hope.

yay! I made ZQ happy! And her kids! Hurrah!

PS, if you need more cheesecake blend let me know, we do a personal swap for more sometime Wink

I just went to the first page to see who HAS signed up, since Babs isn't on the boat yet and guess who I saw? Titaniumhip! What is it about your first ever swap partner that makes you glow every time you see her name? Maybe it's just me because she spoiled me rotten but I love it! Hello, old partner!

I earned to make something new recently and decided at least one would go great in a stocking so while looking for fabric I realized I DON'T HAVE ANY CHRISTMAS FABRIC! I don't think I have ever had any C-mas fabric! Woah! But that's OK. I'll just use this _____ ______ fabric I have for PPs  ________ ______ _______ ____. It'll be cool still. I like it with the green ______. Do I want to keep it for myself? Nah, I like the black and white one.
