TLH, you got some amazing spoilage! I love that idea for I Forgot Day. On to my goodies! I received a couple days ago but since I don't open before I send I just got to opening it today. First, for Stay Out of the Sun Day, I got an apron which is supposed to encourage me to stay inside and make food. I am OK with this.
Then, for Take Your Pants for a Walk Day, I got a water bottle holder, modeled by the fabulous Russell.
And last but not least as far as holidays go: Barbie in a Blender Day. She put some dolls in a jar and made it look like a blender, red feathers (blood? HAHA!) included!
She also made me a tote, which is way better than any tote I have ever made. I don't think tote is a good word for it. I'm thinking something more like Diaper Bag or satchel... There's even pockets inside! Amazing!
This lady, Margiej, sure knows her sewing machine and I'm glad of it! I really honestly loved it all!
And now I get to watch the rain, yay! When I first moved here it rained for 2 weeks in July so I went to WalMart to buy an umbrella. You know what they told me? "It's not umbrella season." It's been raining since Monday. Hm... still looks to me like it's umbrella season. [/rant]
I think this should go here, just because I don't know where else to put it. It's an altered puzzle.
I made it for the MYB 13: Themes swap. Each of the pieces was wrapped in the ball individually. The board, obviously, couldn't fit in the ball but it was still there in the box. She likes it. It's mostly painted but I did cheat a little and use a sharpie on some of the tiles. What do you think?
Here is the full puzzle. I like it. The border part is what my husband was saying didn't suck as much as he thought it would. He didn't think I was going to make it look all grimy like what I imaging real castle walls would look like. He also thought I would just use a Sharpie on for the black lines. Whatever, man. I'm proud of it. I'm glad Sam liked it all!
I finally received Saturday. It's late, but it was worth it. I was spoiled. Music_Queen crafted for 5 of my holidays and sent a ton of extras. For "celebrate the senses day" she sent a small purple bag with a bottle of Healing Garden's lavender lotion in it. For "nature photography day" she made a book "Nature Photography for Beginners" For "let it go" day she sent some bath salts and a magnet.
For "family awareness day" she sent a magnet and little hand painted familt sign For "sewing machine" days she made me what I think is a sewing machine cover? For EXTRAS(!) she sent lots of coloring books, crayons, and flashcards. Oh, and window decals. AWESOME.
Oh wow, how did I miss the gallery? Everything looks great so far. I haven't received yet, but my partner did and she asked me to post for her. Good thing I remembered to take pics this time, eh? For Oscar the Grouch's bday I sent her an Oscar head paperweight, beanbag, whatever, which I spun my own \"Oscar" yarn for (didn't come out as expected):
For eat an Oreo day, I made her an Oreo recipe book, which is supposed to look like an Oreo when it's closed:
And for the anniversary of the release of Lilo and Stitch I locker hooked a stitch wall hanging for her:
I sent today so that meant I could open today, too! Here's what I got, one big group shot. Cheap of me but I'm busy!
Smells good: soaps, soap, soap, loofah soap cracyon soap and raspberry oatmeal soap yum! and beeswax chapstick Something to wear: slippers! Awesome slippers! Douple layered crochet soles and all! Keep in purse: Tide pen Craft supply: Yarn! Favorite store: crcohet hook from Hobby Lobby Summer essential: ice packs Kitchen staple: washrags (1 knit, 1 crochet) and puzzle cookie cutter! Yay! I love cookie cutters! Organized: hanging door basket (the big purple thing in the back) Flower: "foo" flower paperweight Related to yarn: fiber!
Oh, forget to list the extras: beeswax candle kit, little scrap booking tags, just in case.
Slingmomma, yay! Did you really super enjoy spinning or what? I got those frogs at Hobby Lobby, btw, for whoever asked...
I got my ball! She went with my purple theme and sent LOTS of yarn. Oh my, what to do with it? She didn't get the patterns sent so I didn't get to crochet it out like I wanted to, but it was hard enough just unwrapping with my Alice all over it so I guess it's just as well. All I know is I'm not allowed to get any more yarn until I clear out some of my stash: I still have a bunch from the last MYB swap and I've been spinning like mad, on top of the 3 drawers I already had! Here's the loot: Yarn:
Store bought goods: some envelope stickers with my initial on them, soem note cards and a matching magnetic note book, some crayons, and a little turtle (I think in honor of one of my MOHs?)
Also included that I didn't get photographed were a skirt for Alice and a shirt for Russ, both purple! Handmade goodies: small candle (not pictured), journal, earrings, stitch markers, book marks, turtle embroidery, necklace, car, hair bows, soap, potholder, mini pincushion, and my favorite thing was the purple tree pendant! I love it! Sorry there's not a better shot of it but sorry, I'm lazy. I'm not sleeping much these days.
First off, I spun some thick and some thin of each just to see what happened, and I koolaid dyed some of it, but I didn't really like that. I'm not too fond of the brown combo, but maybe I just need to hold on to it and wait for inspiration? My husband will looove that... [/sarcasm] Here is some of what I spun before I dyed it:
I like the black and white. Maybe I'll try another koolaid bath on the thin I just finished today.
As for the grab bag, well, I think I will need to card it or something because a lot of it is like.. I don't know. It's like it was sent right after being sheared off a clean sheep or something.
No real direction or anything. At first I was kind of intimidated but now I'm just worried I will have to fit some hand carders into my craft budget, ug! Maybe I will get the spinning wheel I want for Mother's day or my anniversary next month or something; it comes with hand carders included. Maybe. (The real question there is would I rather have a spinning wheel or a compost bin?!)
The rest of the grab bag was just short chunks of roving.
I think I can handle it, but I don't know if I'll be getting another grab bag, at least not any time soon!
So I bought some yarn from the sheep shed studio, and I should have just gotten the whites but I ended up getting 1 lb browns and 1 lb blacks. This is what they sent me:
It's interesting, but not what I was expecting, but then again I didn't really know what to expect. The 1 lb grab bag is an entirely different story. So here's my question: What should do with it? Should I draft it and spin it like normal on my spindle? I did about 2 oz of the black already and it came out pretty nice so I'll probably do enough of that to make a nice bag or something, but what else to do with it? Learn? Any advice? Any suggestions? Anyone have an epiphany while looking at these that they need to share?
