1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: what if anything can be done with this? on: November 08, 2009 11:15:52 PM
could it be a "clip it up" system to hang scrapbooking supplies from?  Make a chandelier? hand old bottles from it in the yard...ok start over..attack wooden pole, hang old glass bottles from it  then you have a very unique bottle tree! Or use it inside for chandelier using crystals, water bottles water ever is on hand, clip it up system for scrapbooking(do a search and see what others have used) .Use it as magizine holder, cover in pretty paper/mag or scrapbooking and then place magazines inside spokes etc.  I have this has helped. If you can let me know what you have decided to do with it.  I love stuff like this, you may hold onto it for a while and then wham! the perfect idea and solution.

Just make sure to use a new glass and tile drill bit and drill slowly and patiently, very slowly , spritz water on the drill bit and wear protective gloves, mask and eye goggles.   It is going to be really cool! And he will love it. You may think of using colored tissued paper for the inside to add cool difused light. Just a thought, you will have to make a huge hole but it can always be "filled in"  Love that silicon for glass. lol

Well my list keeps getting bigger and bigger. I just hope I have the energy, and time and money to get everything done.

For White Elephant Christmas at church , I am making 2 sets of the curling ribbon coasters that Jo and Chica put on their blog. I am also making a set for my young adult son and dil. I think the colors being bright wil be cool for them as they do enjoy having people over every now and then.  I also am making them a paper Mache mail sorter out of old cereal boxes and packaging I have. I may cover in pm or just decoupage it with pictures of them throughout the last 8 yrs.  They were h.s sweethearts. A very nice couple.  I also was brain storming last night and decided that all my toliet tubes and paper towel tubes are going to become an accessory hanger. I am going to cover the tubes in magazine pages with decoupage medium, and clear varnish to make them hard, then they can hang their scraves etc thru the holes.  I will post picts if I can.  I also just started a blog so they may get there first.  God just gave me the idea last night as I was trying the fold the magazine pages to make the "garbage can from trash" that I have seen on this and other blogs,  I believe it was greenworks not very sure. I subscribe to so many blogs and I may use their idea, or it inspires me into a whole new direction.  Thank you all for sharing your ideas with us.  Lets see I am making dmil, greeting cards, I am making birthday cards, thinking of you, sympathy, get well, Christmas and some blank for any occasion. I may put in a couple of Anniversary cards but most people she knows are also widowed, so I will have to pray on that.  I have an old stationary box with lid that I will use to hold them and make index cards so to seperate them by category.  I am going to decorate the box with a bunch of old postage stamps I have and hope to find a stamp or die cuts of ink pen and well of ink. But I am really trying to use what I have on hand.  Dear hubby, is getting a mixed media art canvas that portrays his love of the idea of sailing off into the sunset. I have had a lot of fun testing out different techniques.  I also would like to learn to make ties so each of the men in my life would have a special tie. Youngest unmarried son, is going to get his quilt finally! I hope he will still like it. married son is getting a made by me sunglass case for his oakleys.  I have a couple of ideas on how to go about this , but please share if you have an idea. The only request from dil was that it be strong and sturdy so if he sits on it , won't break glasses.  That is what she is getting him for Christmas. DIL, whom I really love, is getting a wrap dress, jewelry to go with and possibly a leather purse if I can fit it in. It may end up being a purse with matching fabric to dress not sure yet.
Son's girlfriend, I am so blessed my boys have great taste in women!, I am going to make her a scrapbook for her to fill as she likes. She loves pictures , posing for them and taking them and uses them to tell a story. She may also get a mixed media canvas, smaller for her dorm room.  I hope to make a scarf for each person.
Ok that is my list. Tell me what you think ok.  Thank you for sharing this time with me.
Blessings,
Deanna

7  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: I need ideas for shelves!!!! on: August 31, 2009 04:33:58 PM
This is an idea that is eco friendly and very pocketbook friendly.  In fact it is my dollar store challenge but I cannot post pics yet as my 2nd post. Yippee.  I am a member of freecycle.org and put out a "want" for cardboard boxes. I was blessed with some nice ones. I purchased masking tape from Dollar Tree and had on hand from dollar general a tin of cordovan shoe polish, you know the really thin can that has a twist bar to open?  Any way I covered the box with masking tape in all different thickness and directions and then took paint brush and cover with shoe polish by rolling brush in can, and applied. I had seen this idea to make a bottle look like a leather flask and did it about 15 yrs ago. Before computers for me. So I decided to try it out on the box and it worked. It is now my bookshelf, I just turned it on its side and placed books. I did more boxes with the biggest ones on bottom, sitting on their side and covered with gift wrap that I had on hand, but dollar tree has it and check yard sales if you don't have any on hand.  There you have it. Bookshelves! I had same problem in my craft studio so many windows and not a lot of wall space. But I have made do. I use the 3m hooks and place them on the wall for instant hanging space, Also dollar tree has small crates for $1.oo each and dh used them in garage as shelves by his work table.  I hope this has given you some good ideas. Blessings. Let us know what you end up doing, it would be cool to share. If you want to of course.
8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Old CDs / AOL CDs / AOL CD Cases on: August 31, 2009 04:26:14 PM
I am definitely a newbie! I saw a post over at Fave-crafts for mother's day gifts and made it for my mom for her birthday.  I took 3 old cds, like from aol, and covered them in scrapbook papers and then took a styrofoam heart, or anything of foam like from packing and make your own shape. I covered it in coordinating papers and fabric trims and made her a mail sorter. It came out lovely. I also added a clipboard I had and covered it in same papers, so she would have a place to hang her emergency numbers by the telephone.  This is my first post. I hope I did it right. Please let me know if I didn't so I change it. Thank you all and have a blessed day!
