1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Janet Reno style pink dress -----> casual and cute pink dress on: August 13, 2009 12:17:05 PM
I've been wanting a bright pink dress but I'm not usually a bright colors person so I haven't bought one. However, while shopping in the thrift store this week I discovered a bright pink monstrosity of a dress complete with shoulder pads and fake pockets. Sadly I did not take a before picture, but just envision a bright pink rectangle with shoulder pads, buttons down the front, and a high round neck and you've got the idea... Shape, fix sleeves, add some lace, and here's my second successful clothing recon! Yay!

The light pink is a cami under the dress.

Kinda blurry, but I like the shot.

An attempt to take a pic of the back.

What do you think?

Thanks for looking.
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / question about converting pullover to cardigan on: August 11, 2009 11:28:41 AM
I have a bunch of sweaters that are too small now ( Undecided oops) and I want to make them into cardigans. The first one I modified came out kind of rough. My question is this: Is there a trick to sewing a non-stretchy fabric (like  bias tape or the buttonhole strip from a button down shirt) onto the stretchy sweater fabric?

Thanks!

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / two dresses-- first recons and first wearable sewing projects. on: August 10, 2009 05:52:36 PM

Recon # 1: A dress from an old pair of pants and a Burberry plaid men's shirt from goodwill. I haven't decided what to do with the hem here... Suggestions?

It has POCKETS!!!

The back has some weird gaps, but otherwise I think it looks alright.

Detail on the pleats because I'm pretty proud of them.
Recon # 2: A too big camisole + pillowcase = fun dress! This one isn't quite finished because I'm handstitching the pleats down on the front.

I've just started sewing and I had no idea how much went into making a dress look finished and polished. (not that these particularly do) Thanks for looking!
