21  Re: WWP Round 36 - Midsummer Envelope Swap - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spookygrrrly on: June 28, 2012 03:19:38 PM
I received a wonderful envie from whileitsraining while I had been on vacation.

I very pretty drawing (that had my 7 year old giggling away), a bag of lavender (which made the whole envie smell wonderful), and a recipe for honey-lavender biscotti (which I can not wait to try out!).

Thank you so much whileitsraining Smiley I have started working on my BOS again...the recipe and picture are going to get put right in. Also good luck to you with that little chicken nugget!

I received a beautiful little envie from spookygrrrly!

She sent a lovely watercolor(?) piece of art depicting a typical summery day in the Pacific North West, some pretty summery pieces of material, a really cool coaster from a local brewery, and an awesome bracelet with Litha colors and it glows in the dark!!! She said it reminds her of fireflies! I tried it out and it totally does glow!!  Thanks so much spookygrrrly!! It totally made my day!!!

I had so much fun putting your envelope together. Smiley That is the first friendship bracelet I've made in over 20 years..now the kids want me to teach them how to make them.

Here is the wonderful package that I received from Frosty772 over the weekend:

Here is the whole kit and kaboodle:

The non-crafted items: Spooky caution tape, halloween pencils, a light up necklace (oh and the card that she sent too)

She also sent lots of crafted items:

A jack-o-lantern wall hanging

Bookmark, needle book, and the most amazing cat pin.

Two mug rugs Cheesy and a bunch of fabric squares (I'm collecting squares for a quilt I'm working on):

And it wouldn't be Halloween without candy....

...my favorite...caramel apple suckers

Thanks so much for everything Frosty! I feel very spoiled and love everything. Smiley

I'm glad that everyone seems to be happily stalking away. Smiley

Not only am I excited for this swap, but tomorrow is the first day of fall. Which at my house means....the Halloween decorating begins! We have to watch our holiday budget this year (who doesn't really) so I am trying to come up with ideas that use what we have. I did buy some very necessary items today though (because they were on sale at my grocery store) candies to make these:

also my boyfriends son gave me this guy for my birthday last week:

Though I kinda want to keep him out all year. Smiley

26  Circus Themed Handmade Art Journal (My first one!) - Very Picture Heavy in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by spookygrrrly on: September 22, 2011 12:34:16 PM

This summer I participated in the Head Start Art Journal Swap Rnd 2, where we made an art journal that we "started" for our partner to help take care of the dreaded blank white page syndrome. My partners themes were circus/carnival, nature, and colors/mandalas inspired by India. I tried to incorporate as much of all three as possible, but I'll admit...I've been on a circus kick lately...and it was summer....so the circus part definitely dominated. Smiley

It was my first time ever binding a book, so I chose a coptic binding both for the ease in making and because the ties made me think of the ropes that hold up the circus tent:

The inside front cover I made by cutting a paper grocery bag to 8 1/2"x11" and running through my printer the smudging made it look more like old copy:

And I used the paper to make a pocket on the back cover to hold found things:

All of the paper was first coffee and/or tea stained. Then on half of those papers I used the Tim Holtz distress inks in Antique Linen, Old Photo, and Walnut in various ways and techniques. Finally I randomly embellished either through adding collage elements, drawings, or painting. Here are some of my favorite pages:

I had a ton of fun making this journal. Now I want to make one for me! Smiley

So sorry it's taken me so long to post pictures of the wonderful journal DearBluebird sent me! It's been my birthday and my best friend flew in for a visit...so I've been a bit distracted.

Here are the pictures though:

I knew I was going to be amazed as soon as I saw the cover:

She did the embroidery herself (and I've been lusting over a bunch of her hoops in the hoopla galleries...so I feel extra lucky Smiley )

A few of my favorite pages:

And she made me a bookmark too:

My favorite page of all (this one is just screaming for even more embellishment):

Thank you so much for my journal! I love it!

Ashgrim that house is looking great!

Anefariousimp I like the colors you've chosen for your house. What sort of theme are you going for?

Well, due to my sewing machine breaking :/ I was unable to finish sewing my curtains. I really can't complain too much. The machine was a Singer that my mom purchased in 1980. Since then her, my sister, and myself have used that machine heavily over the years. I knew I was going to be replacing it soon....just didn't think "right now!". Though like my Mom said...we sure got our moneys worth out of that machine. Smiley

So since I couldn't sew...I did the dry run on my house:

I'm going to move the staircase over to the left wall of the house. Also I'm trying to figure out what to do with the door....cut an actual door hole or just leave it as a "pretend" door. I also labeled everthing so that when I take it appart I can do the painting before I glue everything together.

Speaking of glue...what have the rest of you been using to glue your houses together?
