Mad Doctors!  Mad Scientists!  Creatures, Mutations, Robot Monsters, Strange Experiments, Things Man Was Not Meant to Know! Wha ha ha ha ha!!!

What does Mad Science mean to you? Is it a laboratory filled with bubbling beakers and a crazed Doctor toiling over questionably ethical experiments? Or maybe it is the Steampunk inventor working on his steam powered robot army. Or is it all about creating contraptions to take over the tri-state area and thwart fedora wearing platypuses?

Practice your maniacal laughter and join the Mad Scientist 2015 swap to let loose your own inner mad scientist.

You will need to craft either one large item or one medium item AND one small item

12  Re: Gallery for Around the World July Dotee swap in The Swap Gallery by spookygrrrly on: August 04, 2015 10:48:45 AM
My partner cmarion3 is currently on vacation until the 13th but she said once the tracking confirmed my package received to go ahead and post a pic of my dotee to the gallery. Smiley

One of cmarion3's countries was Germany and so I came up with this based off of German folk costumes. In hindsight I wish I had embellished with more embroidery but I am still happy with how she came out. Plus she's my very first dotee!

13  Wicked Women Altered Tin Swap in New Swap Theme Ideas by spookygrrrly on: August 02, 2015 01:49:44 PM

Since well behaved women rarely make history lets have a swap that celebrates those bad girls we love so much! You could go historical (Lizzie Borden, Elizabeth Bathory, Typhoid Mary), literary (wicked stepmothers, wicked witches, villians), or those women who just buck authority and don't play by the "rules". However you want to define "wicked" is up to you.

The swap would be to craft one altered tin giving everyone time to focus on making a really nice item.

If their is enough interest I'd be happy to organize. Smiley

I received a wonderful dotee by cmarion3 on Thursday and am *finally* able to upload the pictures.

One of my countries was Mexico and I mentioned that Frida Kahlo is one of my favorite artists. She put this together to create this wonderful Frida dotee:

Her presentation was wonderful too. She decorated the box it was shipped in to recreate a Frida style painting:

Thanks so much cmarion3 she will have an honored place in my studio. Smiley

15  2013 Art Journal-along-CLOSED in Craftalongs by spookygrrrly on: January 05, 2013 10:59:44 PM

Welcome to the 2013 Art Journal-along! One of my goals for the new year is to work on my art journal everyday...even if it is as little as 5 minutes....I'd love it if I have some company on this journey. Smiley

This is a craft-along to help inspire, encourage, and help you create your own art journal. Collage, draw, paint, altered art...all forms of art journals are welcome to join.

You don't have to wait for a page to be done in order to post. In progress photos are welcome too. What to share a technique that you liked? Post that too! The idea is to cheer each other on as much as possible, share ideas, keep each other motivated, and have fun.

To help keep things organized I'm going to post news, links, and a link to your finished journal on page 1. Update your journal thread as you complete pages so that at the end of the year we can see all the journals. Though feel free to make any in progress posts in the main thread too.

18  Stuff a Small Flat Rate Box for Winter Holidays in New Swap Theme Ideas by spookygrrrly on: October 20, 2012 04:21:42 PM

Since the Stuff a Flat Rate Box for Halloween was so much fun...how about a winter holidays version?

This would be a non-denominational holiday swap so no matter what you celebrate you would be welcome to join!

The main challenge is seeing just how much stuff you can get in a $5.35 flat rate priority box. At least one item needs to be crafted, and at least 50% of the items need to be your partner's winter holiday related. Past that...anything goes! I want this to be an easy, no stress sort of swap. Sound good?

If you are not sure what a small flat rate box check out the USPS site here: https://store.usps.com/store/browse/uspsProductDetailMultiSkuDropDown.jsp?categoryNav=false&navAction=jump&navCount=43&productId=P_SMALL_FRB&categoryId=subcatMSS_B_Free

Sorry, but this would be a US only swap.

With enough interest I'll start the signups the beginning of Nov and send-outs would be mid Dec.

19  Re: Stuff a Small Box for Halloween Rnd 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spookygrrrly on: October 17, 2012 04:29:57 PM
I received from the very awesome Coconutbelles over the weekend and finally got a chance to take pictures!

Here is all the awesome loot she stuffed into a wee box:

Now for some details. Here are some random bits of ephemera, tulle, black faceted sequins (which are awesome), a sweet choker, and a sleeping eye mask (that upon first opening my fiance thought was a tiny crocheted bikini top  Roll Eyes), an a cool vintage halloween card:

She also crafted this very cool box:

...and inside that.... more stuff!:

We have a tiny halloween bunting, three spooky hair clips, earrings, and an awesome ATC:

The ATC deserves a close up. It's called "A Sketch of Rabbits Who Invaded My Teaparty 1881 February":

And lastly my favorite two items. A altered "poison" bottle and the cutest little canvas painting of a graveyard. I Love them both very much:

Thank you so much for the wonderful box Coconutbelles! Cheesy

20  Re: Back to Hogwarts 3 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spookygrrrly on: October 12, 2012 03:46:47 PM
Sorry it has taken me so long to take pictures. I've been trying to find time to take them when it is actually light outside, which is a challenge in the PNW at this time of year. I finally got it done today so here are pictures of the amazing work of patty_o_furniture:

Here is how everything arrived all in nice little parcels by owl post:

For divination class I received some crystal ball earrings:

These are so adorable and very comfortable to wear.

So that I can support my house she made me an amazing Ravenclaw charm bracelet:

I have wanted one of these forever, but I can never seem to find charms that would work. The bracelet is stuffed with charms: one for each house, a cauldron, mermaid, a little castle for Hogwarts, a wizard, quill, womping willow tree...I'm probably forgetting something...but it is awesome. Smiley

Finally the most amazing thing ever. Seriously I've been in complete awe of this (actually my whole household has) My favorite shop is Dogweed and Deathcaps so my partner made me this:

Here are a couple of close ups. The detail is amazing:

The kids have been having a great time trying to find all the references to things in the books. Cheesy This is amazing (and my picture taking skills don't do it justice).  I can't thank you enough for making this for me.

Now for the extras:

My favorite quote in a cute plaque:

A chocolate frog and Bearnie Bott's Every Flavor Beans:

You'll notice the frog is missing. It was delicious and did not survive long enough to be photographed. Also on the back of the tags of the jelly beans it says that each bag contains 2 beans in any of the following flavors: skunk spray, rotten egg, booger, baby wipes, canned dog food, pencil shavings, barf, moldy cheese, or centipede. The kids are scared to eat them. I've never seen them avoid candy before...ever.

A little cauldron and four wands:

My daughter wants to be Hermoine for Halloween so these will be perfect additions to her costume!

Horcrux and owl stamps:

And finally a Marauder's Map so I can be up to no good and not get caught!:

Thank you once more oh so much for all your hard work. This is an amazing package and I love absolutely everything. Cheesy
