1  Metamorphosis Puzzle Blocks in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by SewNina on: September 24, 2009 11:47:56 AM
When I was a kid my uncle gave me a set of these blocks with illustrated images of rural Germany. I always thought they were the coolest puzzle and kept them in good condition. While browsing craft books at a local thrift shop I came across a craft book from the 70's with instructions on how to make a set and had to try it out.

It wasn't difficult, plus it gave me a reason to recycle a few pages from a magazine. (I am all about reusing and recycling). With six different images I was able to vary the difficulty so it is really a good puzzle for any age.

2  Child's Fleece Striped Skirt in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by SewNina on: September 11, 2009 08:31:00 PM

Saved from the landfill this skirt is made from strips of fleece that are normally thrown away. Each strip of fabric is a different width and creates a really unique look.

When making a skirt I sort through the strips to find the right lengths and colors. I sew them each individually until I have the desired size I need to cut the skirt. It is a tedious process but well worth the time. I've been able to save garbage bags full of fabric by doing this.

This skirt is a size 2 but has elastic in the back of the waist for a perfect fit. The length measures 11". The ties can be worn in the front or back. Waist and hem are navy blue.

I know I should have a photo of a child wearing this skirt but I didn't have a cooperating 2 year old to do this and I wanted to get it posted.

For my other stripey project go here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=320838.msg3698152#msg3698152

3  Recycled Fleece Striped Pillows in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by SewNina on: September 11, 2009 08:18:47 PM

Saved from the landfill these pillows are made from strips of fleece that are normally thrown away. Each strip of fabric is a different width and creates a really unique look. These two pillows are backed in a sage green and measure 13". After making a pillow the leftover pieces of fleece are then used to fill it.

When making a pillow I sort through the strips to find the right lengths and colors. I sew them each individually until I have the desired size I need to cut the pillow. It is a tedious process but well worth the time. I've been able to save garbage bags full of fabric by doing this. I have plenty of strips at the moment so expect more stripey projects to pop up in the near future.

4  Moon Buddy in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by SewNina on: August 10, 2009 09:37:41 PM
A creature from the moon, he landed on Earth with no way to get back home. No one knows how he got here. Maybe a bit scared but definitely shy, he won't speak a word.

I hand dyed the wool fabric in 2 colors and hand embroidered the facial features. To me he looks like he came from the moon so I thought he needed a story.

He stands almost 15" tall.

I'm not sure if the link below works. I can't post photos since I'm new. Let me know how it goes.
