1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Wedding Gift for My Son on: February 17, 2005 05:52:41 PM
I just finished this afghan as a wedding gift for my son and his bride.  I started it on Jan. 25 and used scraps from the Granny Square afghan that took me nearly 9 years to finish.  I finished it last night.  Instead of putting fringe on it, I did an edging instead.

Hi Neighbor!
The only bookstore that I know of in Branson is the used bookstore.  I'll have to check out their craft books and see what's there.  I agree, tho'.....Branson needs a bookstore, a JoAnn's, a yarn shop, and quilt store that's NOT geared to the tourist trade. Walmart's yarn and pattern book selection really sucks.

BTW, what kind of crafts are you into?  And how long have you been in Branson?

ForevrBee,I'm dying to see your lastest cover when it's finished.  I have a friend that I'm wanting to make one for as soon as I get the measurements from her.  And thanks for the 'toy' website.  I have to say once again, thank you all for your open mindedness here.  It's so refreshing!

The one I'm working on now is sort of a "make it up as you go" design.  I started to make granny squares again, but didn't like the way the variegated yarn was working with the solid I chose. So I took the 4 squares I made and joined them in a strip then started crocheting around them to made an oblong granny square.  Then it was getting longer much faster than it was getting wider. So right now I'm making two strips of granny squares like the ones in the center and am going to attach them down each side of what I've got so far then go back to crocheting around the entire thing.  I'll definitely post a picture when it's finished.

The instructions said to sew them together using a whip stitch. But I crochet them together with what I intended to be a slip stitch but ended up being single crochet. I think it made for a much sturdier join.

LOL  No, I didn't start the new one 8 1/2 yrs ago.  I started it a few weeks ago, but it's just one huge granny square, sort of, and it's going much quicker.  That 9-yr one was just something I piddled around with in my spare time when I didn't have another project going.  And then it was nearly done and ended up in storage for a couple of years.

I'm in Hollister, near Branson and just wodered if there is anyone else here from this area?  I crochet, knit and quilt and it drives me nuts to have to go to Springfield whenever I want to find a decent selection of supplies.

I'm new to the board and just found this thread.  I live just East of Branson, and have been here for two years.  I never heard of this craft show either.  But I will watch for advertising next year and try to attend if at all possible.  I'd like to support other crafters when I can.

Thank you all so much for your very kind comments.  It really means a lot to know that other crocheters appreciate all the work that went into this.  I'm working on another afghan and hope to have it finished in a few weeks and will post a picture when it's done.

I think this is a magnificent idea! Grin  I'm going to have to try one of these.  I just wish I'd joined up and seen this a couple of weeks ago before I got rid of a bunch of bags.  I usually use them as trash bags, but I get more than I can possibly use up.  I had so many stored up, and my grocery store doesn't have a recycle bin for them, and I always forget to take them when I go to WM. Embarrassed  But I'm sure I have enough to make at least one tote bag.  I think it would be good to put yarn and a current project in.
