1  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: What can I do with the extra eggplant? on: July 22, 2010 02:26:06 PM
i like grilled eggplant. its pretty amaazing -- but another thing my mom does (& im not sure if youre okay with eggs and/or if its gluten free) with eggplant is making eggplant "omelets." she boils or grills the eggplant & chops it once finished. she places it in scrambled eggs & makes omelets with them. theyre SO good.
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: 2008 Completed Costumes Scrapbook! (completed project pictures & links go here!) on: October 15, 2009 09:50:38 PM

i was amy winehouse -- making the beehive was the hardest part. i used like 3 wigs & hair extensions + dyed my hair black. the rest was pretty simple. skinny jeans, tank top, bra hanging out, faux tattoos drawn on with sharpie and paint pens -- hospital syringe, sans the needle + drugs and some baggies full of oregano and flour. my friend's costume is way more impressive. he made himself a dr. zoidberg costume. a couple of our korean exchange student buddies were hero and ando from heroes. unfortunately, the boyfriend wasnt too creative. he was a firefighter for halloween. too bad thats his real job... i was disappointed.

before that -- i was an eskimo. i made the "dress" outta this sherpa material. it was WAY simple. my favorite part was my utility belt which was made from rope and other fishing equipment, like fishing lures that looked like little fishies, fish de-scaler, netting, knife looking thing, and an actual little net for minnows. i also had this faux fur shawl which i wore over my shoulders. complete with HUGE mega man looking boots that were brown with fur on them. plus some really shimmery white eye shadow which you really cant see in the pictures. my friend was a bunny -- pretty typical but she pulled off her costume pretty well.
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: tired of the sexy-everything costumes? on: October 15, 2009 09:32:08 PM
i can see both sides of the argument. i once used to dress in tiny halloween costumes that i thought were cute, but i always did create the costumes on my own. i have never bought a pre-made costume. im just weird and have this phobia of wearing the same thing as someone else. i was 19 and young. & i say, good for you if you want to be someone different for the night -- its halloween. have fun! Smiley

now that im on the road to being a mother, i dont see dressing in revealing clothing as acceptable as before. i see that im going to be a mother & im not down with that. i guess that sense of being a little more modest has come with my age as well. i still make all my own costumes because i hate store bought costumes & going to party stores basically makes me crack up seeing how much they charge for costumes that are all identical. not everyone is original though & we cant fault them for that. Wink us ladies and gentlemen that can make our own clothing & costumes really have a gift.
