My mom watches home and garden and cooking shows non stop. Loves the cake making ones, and has decided to try her hand at fondant cakes. Decided to make one for her friend's 60th birthday which we finished the night before she (Mom) drove halfway across the country.
My mother did all the actual baking, kneading, rolling and icing I cut out all the fondant shapes and told her where to put them-she was starting to get "creative" and wanting to "experiement" when I kindly informed her (more than once, with feeling) that the 9th hour was NOT a good time to mess with things, just get it done.
Fondant is marshmallow, cake is chocolate with buttercream icing and a cherry glaze/syrup thing in layers. Marshmallow fondant is delicious! I hate marzipan, so it was kind of a revelation for me that fondant tastes good.
Neither one of us is particularly artistic, and we have no real cake making supplies BTW-I know it pales in comparison to some others on here. My mom is not super internet friendly so I thought I'd share her acheivement!
(So annoying...I can't even post the thummbnails? Argh)
