I have FINALLY put the pictures of my dolls I made in Feb/Mar onto my computer.

I had so much fun making these, and I'm so excited that there is another donation going on now (I've been checking the blog every few days in anticipation). And we have until November to make these little guys/gals. I can't wait to see how many dollies are made with this drive.

I received all of my bracelets a little bit ago and have finally been able to get a good pic and get it onto my computer!!

Barbolot Thank you for posting pictures!!! And I am in  love with this peice. The sunflower is also my favorite part, and the owl, I absolutely love owls. I'm going to post the owl pic, but your pics are waaaaaaay better than mine.




I have to say that I'm so glad Barbolot was my partner. I can't say how much I love this piece and her stitches are amazing. I can't wait to sew this into a tote bag. And the fact that this was stitched on reclaimed linen is just too perfect.

A tote bag crocheted from plastic bags!! I freakin love this bag. At first I held it up backwards so I didn't see the flower right away, but when I saw it I screamed. I love it!!

My mom loves rainbows and butterflies. I made this for her for Christmas, it is a lap quilt and she loved it. I also made a matching rice pack out of the extra fabric. I'm not sure if this is technically a quilt, b/c I tied the layers together with yarn like my grandma did when she made blankets.

[Pattern:]

This is my one of my signature baby shower gifts. I found this pattern a long time ago and wrote it down in a notebook, so I can't give the author credit. I did make one change to the original pattern: it called for the button to be sewn on after the bib was finished, I thread the button onto the yarn and knit it into place. There are three buttonholes on the strap for different sizing for baby.





Pattern:

Supplies: Size 9 needles, Cotton worsted weight yarn, and 1/2 to 5/8 inch button

~Thread button onto yarn
~Cast on 25 stitches
~Knit every row until bib is almost square, on the next row knit about 3 stitches, place button, then knit the rest of the row. Knit until bib is square (about 3 more rows). I always guess where I think the button should go, so this isn't exact.
~Bind off 20 stitches (you should have 5 stitches left)
~Knit every row until strap is 7-8 inches long from cast off edge
~Knit a buttonhole row: Knit 2 stitches, yarnover, knit two together, knit one
~Knit 5 rows (3 ridges show after buttonhole)
~Repeat buttonhole row
~Knit 5 rows
~Repeat buttonhole row
~Knit 5 rows
~Bind off remaining stitches

You can make a variation where you knit in seed or moss stitch, you want a pattern that is the same on the front as on the back.

When I was younger my mom always loved Scherenschnitte (means "scissors cutting" and is the German and Swiss art of paper cutting.) So for mother's day last year I made her and my boyfriend's mom these cards. I didn't take pictures of the insides of the cards, but I used my typewriter and typed different poems for each of them onto pink card stock that matched the pink envelopes. I found the designs online, printed them out, used a sunny window to trace them onto cardstock then used small scissors and a small razor blade to cut them out.

My boyfriend's mom's card:

My fingers hurt so bad after cutting these out, but it was worth it. They both absolutely loved their cards. My mom framed hers.

I made this little guy this past summer, he was my second attempt at making a stuffed animal and I used a pattern this time. (My first attempt can be seen here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=316557.0) The pattern is from the book S.E.W by Dianna Rupp. She has two sizes and this is the smaller size. I made the larger elephant for my boyfriend's niece for xmas, but didn't take any photos before I gave it to her.




This shows the embroidered year on his back leg and the tail I braided (this wasn't part of the pattern, I had trouble with the original tail so I came up with this.) It also shows that I needed to practice sewing up the openings, which I've gotten better at.


I embroidered the eyes, the pattern uses buttons for eyes.


One last shot just for fun. I love those ears.

I found this doll at the Goodwill, I spent $2.13 on her (I paid for her using the spare change in my purse). I thought this was an "ugly" before because she was so sad and forgotten. And she had been trapped in that awful box for years!!!! I think she's from the 70's but I'm not sure, I couldn't find out too much about her using the info I got off the box and the internet.

Here's how I found her:


The box was all torn up, it had masking tape holding it together, but she was still inside the "unopened" original box. She was part of the "American Gem Collection" by the Uneeda Doll Co. She is the "Virginia" doll.

I knew she had potential, I loved the look of her face.


I opened the box, unfastened her from the cardboard, and removed her old clothes. She was covered in a layer of grimmy dust (which you can see on her clothes in the pic) and smelled musty and gross. In this picture is her bonnet, dress, shoes and underwear that she came with.



And the dramatic tranformation. First she had a new dress custom made and fit just for her. Then she cut her hair into a cute bob that is slightly shorter in the back (just like mine). She had her shoes changed from blue to black and picked out some awesome accessories to match. She feels like a brand new doll! And she couldn't be happier to be able to interact with the world. She also decided that she wants to be called Gina.



I hand sewed her dress using the cuff of an old sweater as the material, her accesories are scraps from a pair of sweatpants I had cut into shorts and I colored her shoes black with a permanant marker.

When I went to the Dollar Tree I had no idea what I was going to make, I went in hopes that something would hit me. While I was wandering the aisles I passed a bin that sat low to the ground and it was full of t-shirts, all colors and sizes of kids t-shirts. I thought I could do something with a couple of them, so I started to dig through and that's when I discovered the hoodie! The only one in the bin and it was a kid's XL, just big enough to fit me, except the sleeves were a little short.

I've wanted one of these since I was in nursing school (2 years ago), but I didn't want to pay $30 for it.

The final product "action shot" I wore this to work as soon as it was finished:


The two items I bought:

1 charcoal colored t-shirt and 1 white hooded sweatshirt

I cut the letters out of the t-shirt and appliqued them onto the back of the hoodie and stitched around them with white contrasting thread.

Since the sleeves of the hoodie were too short I cut off the original cuffs and made new ones out of the t-shirt sleeves (b/c of the nice hem).
