1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Doctor Who and Harley Quinn Inspired Bags on: July 25, 2014 11:09:15 AM
I did an artist table at a con recently with my friend so I made a lot of new things. I wanted to share these two bags because I was really happy with how they turned out. Smiley The Tardis one was the most work, I hand painted the Police Box words (which made me nervous because I'm not a great traditional artist!) and then satin stitched the windows and outlines.

2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Harry Potter and Adventure Time Plushes on: July 25, 2014 11:05:35 AM
These are some of the plushes I made lately. Harry, Ron, Ginny, Hermione, and Draco from Harry Potter and then Fiona, Marceline, and Princess Bubblegum from Adventure time. Smiley They are all handsewn and Ginny is my favorite because I love how cute her freckles turned out. Smiley I have so much fun making these!

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Pick and Choose Swap on: June 30, 2013 06:29:32 PM
I stumbled upon this Pick N Choose swap from 2008 I think and it seemed like it would be a fun idea. Basically each participant listed 5 themes and then 10 items they would like to receive and their partner then picked five items to craft, one for each theme. I think it might be easier to list 10 themes maybe so you would have more to choose from, and possibly more items, with having a requirement of listing 6 small items, 6 medium items, and 4 large items or something, but the idea of it still seems like it might be a fun swap, that way you are getting to group a lot of interests into one swap. The swap I was organizing just finished up so I could organize this one if there is much interest. Would anyone be interested? Smiley

If volunteering please PM me for approval. I am looking at a two week deadline to send, because amnesia has been waiting a long time. She sent internationally to her partner early and her partner flaked early on. Whoever volunteers, please be willing to send her a nice package as she's been very patient and nice about everything! Smiley This is a 5 point swap, with the stipulation that one item must be a large or medium, not all smalls.

Angel is needed for amnesia. She lives in the US.

What are your favorite comic titles?
Appleseed
Air
Fables
Fatale
Hack/Slash
Kabuki
Lady Mechanica
Mind the Gap
Witchblade

Manga:
Nana
Honey & Clover
Queensblade
Tenjo Tenge
Ruroni Kenshin

What are your favorite genres? (i.e. Superhero, Horror, Science Fiction, etc.) - I like sci fi, but don't read as much in comic form .. In comic form, I'd say action, crime drama, historical drama, and human interest

Who are your favorite characters? I tend to like strong female action characters -- but from classc comics - Rogue, Darkstar, Phoenix, Witchblade, Wonder Woman

Are there any comics and/or characters you really dislike and wouldn't be happy to receive anything crafted of?   Nope - I've run the gamut over the years (from the dark and angsty to the cute and sweet)

What kind of crafting can you do? Sewing, drawing, mixed media crafting, some papercrafts

What kind of crafting do you admire? resin, glasswork, more advanced polymer clay and ceramics  work, more advanced jewelry work

Can you list 3 (or more if you like) things or types of things you would love to receive?  I definitely use cross-body book bags, or cross-body farmers market bags (since we banned plastic bags in my city and paper bags cost $).. I wear necklaces and statement earrings, hairclips.. I could use a simple Kindle cover.. I always use tea towels..small figurines are fine too..

Is there anything you would prefer not to receive? Things that are very large and decorative (only because I live in a small space)

Do you prefer to send and receive extras or prefer not to? I'd like folks to feel no pressure to send extras... I like to send extras if I have stuff that makes sense for the crafter (in the vein of a pseudo-destash) ..otherwise, I might add in some candies or something, but if I don't have anything that fits with the theme, then I don't make extras..

What are your favorite colors?  I like all colors... but tend to like richer or more vibrant colors on stuff I own

What are your Sizes? (In case your partner would like to make you clothing or jewelry) Shirt size, Pant Size, Wrist Size? I'm roundish... ask if you need these.

Do you have a pinterest/wist/blog you would like your partner to use for inspiration?
http://pinterest.com/kelly_yamamoto/boards/

Do you have any allergies? Dairy, juniper

Is there anything else you would like your partner to know? I like plenty of comics I don't read regularly (and married someone who hangs out with guys from the comic book store every week)... we collect plenty of off-stream character figurines based on aesthetics alone... so feel free to craft a new character or something not listed if it is easier for you.. I love checking out new stuff too.

6  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 86 ENTRIES / Needle Felted Cats on: May 03, 2013 07:18:36 AM
I made these around two years ago for the Craft My Pet swap and just never posted them. I needle felted versions of my partner's three cats. Took forever!  Shocked But they turned out pretty cute. Smiley I think I had bloody fingers after this. Wink I do enjoy needle felting though, I should do more of it.

8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Superhero/Comic Characters Swap on: March 20, 2013 10:06:25 PM
I have been in some geek swaps before and a graphic novel one but I wanted to see if there was any interest in a superhero/general comic characters swap? My big loves are X-Men, Batman, Runaways, and The Avengers, but I also dabble in a lot of others. It could be limited to superhero type comics or include less traditional comics like Sandman, Hellboy, The Unwritten, etc depending on what everyone wants. The swap wouldn't actually be for comic books but for comic inspired items (i.e. shirts, headbands, wall art, jewelry, inspired by favorite characters, etc.) I think it could be fun. I can organize if there is much interest. Smiley
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Bunch of Appliqued/Altered Shirts on: September 20, 2012 02:49:36 PM
I wasn't really sure if I should post this in general clothing or reconstructed clothing but since it wasn't actually taking apart anything I figured here was appropriate. My current hobby is thrifting clothing and altering it usually with applique into something I actually want to wear. It works out well because I find some great stuff in thrift stores and save a ton of money and with a fiance who is in school and a four year old that's always a good thing. Smiley I wanted to share some of my latest projects.

Phoenix Sweater. Started out as a green sweater with a rather unattractive Christmas tree on the front. I make an applique inspired by X-Men and was able to cover it pretty well. There are a few issues still but it's going to be warm and comfy for me this fall. Smiley

Another X-Men one, I love Grant Morrison's run of New X-Men and this and the phoenix sweater were inspired by that. This was a plain black turtleneck sweater from Goodwill.

This one is a little hard to see. It's a Batman sweater meant to be subtle with black on dark grey but in the light it's hard to see. Regardless I love it and it's 100% merino wool which means it's super soft and comfy. Again another goodwill buy. Smiley

This one is a little image heavy. I bought this dress at a local thrift store for $3, there was a pretty big tear and scuffed spot on the bottom but I loved the polkadots and I don't often find cute knee length dresses in my size. So I repaired the holes as well as I could, covered that spot up with a big bow and added an anchor applique. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out although I still need to do some more handstitching on the bow to get it to sit exactly where I want it.

The Before

After

A thrifted cardigan appliqued with Legend of Zelda life hearts. I'm missing a half Wink

And lastly these are two that were not made for myself to wear as they were too small but still two I really liked once they were finished.

Appliqued Vest

And a blue cardigan with Atashi from Chobits. I love this so much and am on the lookout for a soft blue cardigan in my size to do one for me. Smiley

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Weeping Angel Ornament (Doctor Who) on: September 20, 2012 02:25:15 PM
I thought this would be a fun idea for an ornament. My fiance and I are huge Doctor Who fans and the angels are one of my favorite villains. It took a loong time to get my patterns right and then I still wasn't quite happy with the face but I love how it looks otherwise. :]
