21  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Gathered Roots - An Herbalism Swap R2 (Send by April 2, 2010) on: February 21, 2010 09:18:13 PM
I found a website list that I have from and old hermalism meetup group that I attended briefly. I can't be sure that all the links work, since I got this a few months ago, but given the number here you are sure to find many that will.

22  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: screwback posts on: February 11, 2010 10:01:04 PM

I had been a little confused because it seemed your friend wanted something that could come off with pulling/etc, but also? something that couldn't come off (the screw-on type of cap).

Diane B.

Sorry, I was sort of thinking out loud in the post and looking at the problem from 2 different angles. What I was trying to say is that she likes the screwable posts because they can't fall out on their own but there is also less of a likelyhood that there would be something for someone to grab on an yank at, which with pierced versions like the kidney option, would rip the earlobe.  I then had the seperate thought that with clips at least if they were yanked on that they would reduce the risk of damage to the earlobe. I didn't mean to confuse you.

On the upside I did find what I was looking for at Rio Grande:

the only problem is that at $30 a pair  the are too rich for my blood given my level of experience at this point with the medium. My guess that for the most part the price has to do with the price of gold right now. Hopefully, now that I know what it called, I can find them in silver or another medal that might be a bit cheaper but still good quality.

Thanks for all of you Help!

Jorie

thanks for the links, I've looked in the catalog for fire mountain and not seen them, but perhaps its a web only item. I also tried Metalliferous when I originally searched for them on here, but something was wrong with the posts pdf when I tried to load it. I will try it again. The kidney wires are also an idea, especially since that is something I can make.

As for why she wants/prefers the screwback posts my guess is that she works in an ER so she doesn't want them to possibly fall out but she also does not want anything that could be grabbed at and yanked by a patient that is being combative due to shock, mental illness or because they are under the influence of something. At least those were my considerations when I used to work in a psych hospital. If I cant find the post and I use the clip version at least the risk of a ripped earlobe is reduced.

I love Torchwood and Dr Who too. I mean, John Barrowman is so hot I'm surprised that things don't just burst into flames around him.  Grin Anyhow I have to say that I prefer Dr. 8 (Christopher something?). David Tennent is a great actor, but his Dr. to me comes comes across as overconfident. I liked the insecurity in the other one. I heard one of the writers once say that each of the Drs. had a life lesson to learn akin to the concept of reincarnation. I wonder what 9's lesson was? I must admit that I've probably only seen about 80% of the new series and the specials. Is the Alt reality the one where Rose's father is still alive? I must say that I also prefer the girl that's a med student over Rose. Rose had better interplay with the Dr. but  I think the med student was more of an intellectual match.

Now to get back to the topic at hand.........

The other day I picked up a great book from the library called herbal remedy gardens. Its got herbs bunched together by their use with plans for both container and plot gardens along with use recommendations and recipes. Its giving me alot of good ideas.

My friend works in healthcare and prefers to only wear screwback post earrings because of this. I have been wanting to make her some earrings as a preasent, but I have had a hard time finding these findings either online or in brick and mortar stores. I've looked around the site, but what I have found is not what need as what I get is a type of clip that allows you to adjust the clips pressure on your ear like a vice, and what I need is a post for a pirced ear that is threaded so that the back screws on like a wing nut. Maybe I am not calling it the right thing? The jeweler that I used to work for had them and that was what he called them. ( I would ask him, but I lost contact with him when he retired) Does anyone have any ideas as where I can get my hands on some of these?
