1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / 'Normous shirt to 'reet cute skirt! on: July 31, 2009 11:27:46 AM
Inspired by Laura (Miss American Pie)'s shirt-to-skirt work, I spent my afternoon making this...

... from this!!

Love the sleeves for pockets, I love all my skirts with pockets in.  I picked up this shirt in a charity shop because I liked the option of additional pattern at the bottom to play around with, but ended up not doing anything with it at all!

I used spare blue material from the bunting I made earlier (as our flat overlooks the BIG Brighton Pride parade tomorrow)
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My first three drawstring bags! on: July 31, 2009 01:59:32 AM
I haven't made these since I was eight and preparing for Brownie camp with my mum  Roll Eyes

They turned out really smart, it was Lizi who told me I should do them for India.  They're going to be for my shoes and dirty laundry and things, but I'm half tempted to add some straps and make them into tote bags!

I quite want to find some buttons the same colour as the ribbon on the red/white bag to add to it.

*whoops, meant to post this in the proects forum! Newbie mistake!*
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / How to embellish these bags? Ideas! on: July 30, 2009 05:35:09 AM
So I made these drawstring bags lastnight, but am out of ideas for decorating them. Usually attack things with felt and embroidery thread, have done circles, stars, owls, narwhales and dinosaurs in the past. Ideas please!

As I'm a newby i can't post pictures yet, but the bags are here:

4  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Vegan watermelon cupcakes! on: July 30, 2009 05:23:48 AM
Watermelon Cupcakes!

I made these to celebrate the sun coming out!

1 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
6 tbsps marg
2/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp ground flax seeds whisked with hot water
1/2 cup soya milk whisked with 1tsp apple cider vinegar ("buttermilk")
1/4 watermelon whizzed in the food processor
Butter cream icing or icing sugar to decorate

Preheat oven to 180oC. Cupcake wrappers into cupcake tins.

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in flax seed mixture. Add "buttermilk" and watermelon, beating just until combined.

Whisk in flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and sugar.

Fill the cupcake tins 3/4 full. Bake for about 15-25 minutes or until golden, checking regularly. Place on racks to cool.

To serve, either sift with icing sugar, or lavish with buttercream icing with a couple of drops of red food colouring!
