2  new fall/winter clothes for me! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Crafty Shay on: September 02, 2010 01:28:31 PM
hello all you crafters! i haven't posted anything in a while.. as a matter of fact i haven't even made anything in a while. all my creativity has been mia.

but anywho. i don't have many clothes and i usually feel guilty buying myself stuff when i could buy my kids or my husband something. but i really really need fall and winter clothes. so, what did i do? i brought out trusty ol besty and got to sewing again!

i forgot to take before pictures.. maybe because i didn't know if it'd be success for or not. but i had a pair of jeans that were 3 sizes too big for me and one of my husbands old 2xl polo sweaters from his fat man days.

without further ado.. my new outfit!

i still have some finishing to do on the seams in the shoulders and such, but i'm fantastically happy with my outcome!

4  presents on the cheap =) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Crafty Shay on: December 04, 2009 02:32:31 PM
so. i'm assuming this is the best place to post this. well... if you consider it to be a wallet.. a crayon wallet. lol. anywho. this year for christmas i'm not spending any money on anyone including our children. everything i'm giving is either a freebie or handmade. (freebie as in coupon codes and such, not regifting)

there are 6 children who need gifts from us.. so, i made them a mini notepad and a crayon roll. quite awesome if i do say so myself =)

and the best part.. i made them out of old pillowcases that i really liked. of course i'm gonna vary them up with some different prints and such, but still great!

without the crayons

with crayons

rolled up

p.s. i will be replaced my daughters old broken crayons for new ones. i won't be that cheap. lol... okay okay, i'm still cheap because i bought 20894923842390 boxes of crayons when they were on sale for .20!

awesome tute here.. but i really didn't follow directions at all, i seem to have a problem with that.

5  diapers, with a tute! (sooooo many photos) in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Crafty Shay on: November 05, 2009 02:52:59 PM
i use cloth diapers on my son, but there is no way on this earth i am going to shell out $10+ on a diaper ESPECIALLY when i can make it myself. i've seen a lot of different tutes on making your own, but i can never understand directions. when it came down time to make it, i just drew my own pattern by tracing a sposie and making it up as i went along. these diapers have turned out to be awesome. the hubs likes these so much better than our prefolds. they don't look perfect, but my son seems to like them =)
sorry if my steps are confusing, this is my first tute!

*i used old receiving blankets, 100% cotton shirts, and baby towels for my diapers*

completed diapers out of 2 of my old favorite shirts

step 1.
cut out your pattern. you will need 2

step 2.
get you some cranking tunes and your ratatouille pin cushion  Cool and fold 2 or 3 layers (or more depending on how thick you like your diaper) of your leftover fabric and pin to the RIGHT side of one of your layers and sew it on.

step 3.
pin the RIGHT side of your other layer and pin it to the back of your other one. you should still be able to see the inner piece you just sewed on.

step 4.
get you some nifty elastic. (because i'm SUPER frugal, i cut it out of my maternity pants)
sew it on the back in the middle and on the legs.
*ignore my grotescly large hands. ew*

*pull the elastic as you sew*

step 5.
sew all the way around the diaper only leaving the FRONT end open. (i do all of this at once when i'm sewing the elastic on because it seems easiest)
this is what it should look like once you've done this step.. ignore my wonky lines.

step 6.
flip it right side out and sew the front up

step 7.
this step is optional. you can sew a line to separate the elastic from the center on the legs and on the back. it looks better when you do it. you can sew some velcro or just leave the tabs empty and use pins.

step 8.
admire your new diaper! =)

6  crayons! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Crafty Shay on: October 23, 2009 07:19:18 AM
couldn't really decide where to post this. in the costumes or in the kids.. but since this is for a kid, i decided here. i was a little annoyed this year because my sister calls me up and says "because you love me, make my halloween costume this year." so i asked what she wanted to be, in which she replys "i dunno, whatever you want me to be". ahhhhhhh! so. at first i was like tinkerbell. yea. cute, easy. that flopped because well, it's too cold, and i refuse to alter a costume and then have people confused and not know that she's tinkerbell and not a stupid fairy. -end rant- lol. i also refused to go buy more stuff, so i decided, hey. why not a crayon. and here is the finished product. i debut to you :sea foam green =)

*action shots later*

it'll be dark, so you want be able to see the fraying  Cool

this will be worn with a black long sleeved shirt, black leggings and black flats. yay me!

7  jeans to vest in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Crafty Shay on: October 08, 2009 10:38:10 AM
hello my fellow crafters! i saw this awesome neato vest by brandymccoy here :http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=318422.0 i thought i'd try my hand at making a mini for my daughter. i used some preteen jeans so the pockets are a lil big, but for a tester, i think it turned out pretty decent. i didn't have any pretty ribbon or fabric for the bow, so i just used that yellow for the time being. comments and crit very welcome!

and yes, she is gettin her model pose on in this one lol <3

it's getting to be a little bit cooler here and my son doesn't have many long sleeve things so i decided to make him a hoodie out of a few items from a bag of clothes from my little sister. i made it out of the zipper from a pair of jeans, an ugly sweat shirt, and a baby towel. i think i may put a pocket on the outside later

my sister gave me these amazing printed skirts and i thought they would be perfect as dresses for my lil monster. didn't take much altering. just made the sides tighter and added a neck strap. they turned out to be too cute!
