Hey there I'm currently working on this pattern myself... almost done- it's quite big!!! Anyway, yes- the bolded dcs' go into the space... the ch 3 acts as the first dc. See, you're making a little point with the 2dc, ch2, 2dc. You're going to do that whole bit into the space. I had the basket problem myself... it is possibly your stitches are too tight, or you need to go up a hook size. Once you get going on this, you'll be cruising along. Good luck and hope that helps!

In the original Addams Family (tv show), Morticia knits quite a lot....and in the show Pushing Daisies, the character played by Chi McBride (a big black man who plays a private investigator) knits . I know I've seen crocheting in stuff, too- but can't think of anything lol.

I have the Creepy Cute amigurumi book and I like it, although I haven't yet made something from it . I believe I have that book you mentioned, OP. I love books about square and other motifs. There's one I saw at Barnes and Noble but it's WAY too expensive, like $25+ for the book!
