1  Whedon Stencils - First ever try in Stenciling: Completed Projects by AllyCatAria on: September 21, 2012 08:32:58 PM

So this is my first ever freezer paper stencil for my partner, thehappycrochetchic, in the Whedonverse swap.

First was the Jayne bag. I love how the hat came out.

And heres the other side of the bag. I was a bit concerned because I wanted the letters to look really perfect, and I was glad that they stayed really crisp, even when it seemed like the freezer paper wasnt completely sticking down. I am super in love with this bag and have to make myself one when I feel up to cutting out all those little pieces again.

And heres the sleep mask I made for my partners Buffy side. This is probably the smallest I will ever go with letters. It was really hard to get the little pieces inside the a and e letters to stay in place while ironing.

Over all, I am super-duper pleased with my first foray into freezer paper stenciling. Although its really time consuming to cut out all the little pieces, and it stinks if one piece goes missing, its a nice repetitive and calming craft. I cant wait do to more. I already have a bunch of ideas for future projects using freezer paper. I just wish you could reuse the stencils.

I do love everything! I figured out the Firefly jar, when I got it this morning I had just woken up and I though it was just a jar with a piece of fabric with a bow, there was a little battery operated wire that moved around...i showed my hubby and i was thinking it was suppose to be something but i could not figure it out! I unwrapped the fabric thinking it was tangled since it didnt move and it was a little serenity ship on a wire, when you turn it on the tail lights up and it flits around, I feel sooo dumb for not figuring it out sooner! I think it was a product "Pet Firefly in a Jar" that she added a clay ship to. it is super original and creative not sure if I can get a good pic of it though, I will try tomorrow!

Thanks Again Ally!

Thanks!! It was a lot of fun to make! But it's really hard to get pictures of it since it moves.

I have some here:

4  Firefly in a Jar! Literally! in Completed Projects by AllyCatAria on: September 21, 2012 09:57:01 AM

So, my partner in the Whedonverse swap had all these art images pinned of a Firefly in a jar. So I decided to make her a real one!

I got one of those toy firefly jars for kids to get started. I carefully removed unnecessary parts to leave the light fixture as exposed as possible. I felt quite morbid cutting up a cute cartoon-y firefly.

I debated over what clay to use. It had to be air dry and not brittle, so I chose Model Magic because it dries a bit like an eraser.

I made a wire base for the ship and began adding little bits of clay until I got the shape I wanted.

Then I used 3 different metallic silver, black, and grey paint to make the ship seem all patchy the way it does in the show.

The true test was to make sure it would still light after all my manhandling. And it did!!!

It was very hard to get a picture of it lit, since is kept moving.

Overall Im thrilled with it!

The one downside is that it kind of hops around as it moves, rather than glides, because the wire is so long. If I knew more about wiring, I would have shortened it. But the toy was a little bit pricey, and I didnt want to risk ruining it,  or making it unsafe, by messing with the wires.

So I already got my package from the amazing bunny1kenobi!!

First off, heres everything.

Yes, that is an umbrella!! An awesome patronus umbrella. The cat is fantastic! And this is great because it rains in buckets with no warning here in FL.

I also got some great owl post cards, which I have been wanting for a long time. The owls belly is text from books. How great! To write letters, I also have my very own quill. And a great notebook for investigative reporting at the Quibbler. Even the inside of the notebook shows my affiliation! I have no idea how she managed to do it!

I also got this fantastic Ravenclaw Quidditch tee-shirt. The printing is so crisp, and it has my name on the back too. And it sparkles!!

Wearing my new swag:

Thank you so much bunny1kenobi!!! I hope youll love my package as much as I do yours!!

I got a shiny package from thehappycrochetchic and managed to get some photos.

First, I got a mug that says aim to misbehave which is great because, I needed a good mug to keep at work for frequent coffee and tea breaks Smiley

I also got. Dun dun dun dun- a Jayne hat!!! Yay!! I cant believe her skill in crochet. I wish my fingers could grasp how to crochet, but I always seem to make knots. It even looks knit, like his does, and I have no idea how she made it.

There are some neato wrist warmers like Pennys. Im wearing them right now, since my hands get really cold.

But wait, theres more!

A coaster to go with my mug. A strawberry for Kaylee. Some stitch markers for Mal and Kaylee- the one has one of my favorite quotes from when they first meet (Ever ride in a Firefly? Wanna?). And two magnets with more of my favorite quotes: The status is not quo and Lets be bad guys. And a pair of pretty blue earrings that make me think of Inara.

Here I am enjoying my new cunning hat and wristwarmers!

Thank you so much for everything!!!!! I hope you enjoy mine as much as I love yours.

7  Re: Stationery & Note Card Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by AllyCatAria on: August 14, 2012 12:57:47 PM
I received from Thimbles71 yesterday! Since I was totally in love with both of her stationery designs, and she had claimed cards from me, we decided to send double. I sent her extra cards and she sent me extra stationery.

Here's a close up of each. These are darling. I have several people in mind who would love to receive a letter on this paper.

I tried to capture the beauty of the paper, but my pictures don't do it justice. It has a lovely iridescent shimmer to the background.

Not pictured is a sweet note she sent using one of her crocheted heart cards. I am so thrilled with all my new stationery!

Thank you so much Thimbles71!!!

Here's the fabulous "snail mail" (btw- I love that pun) from gala_apples.

Since I was fond of both her cards and stationery, she generously sent me a half set of each.

I really love the snails on the envelopes. It would be a cute way to jazz up any letter you send, and possible get a chuckle at the post office.

The cards are utterly charming. I'm thinking I will have to hold off on sending one, just so I can keep it all to myself.

And here's the great stationery from SunnyDawn. Many of these are already set aside to be sent to specific people.

The stationery had these great nature stamps with a poem border. Who ever though recycled stationery could look so good.

Here are some of my favorite envelopes:

And I don't know what it was about your package, but my cat freaking loved the paper. She couldn't stop sniffing it and trying to roll about on it.

I love all of it. This has been such a great swap.

Hi everyone!! I received from eeyore_witch on Monday and finally got some batteries to take pictures. My OTHPT from her was great!

The box has a little library shelf boarder. Neato~

The best part about it is the cross-stitched Ravenclaw patch. I love and adore needle-work, but I’m not really good at it. I’m always amazed at the patience it takes to make these things!

I have this thing with boxes. I always, always, have to open them. So I did Cheesy

Inside was this great little HP notebook. This is so fab for me because I love making lists on tiny notepads. This one is currently holding my schedule and schoolwork time-line for my finals this week. Yay! Rockin’ the school Ravenclaw style.

The lid of the box even has Ravenclaw’'s line from the sorting hat.

Thanks so much for being my swap partner eeyore_witch!!

Here's all my stationery for offer:

Stationery and cards are made from cardstock. Stationery can be lined or not. Pick your pleasure.

Candy stationery and cards - I have more colors available than the samples shown.

Halloween stationery and cards - I'm willing to customize with cats, owls, bats, and spiders along with the pumpkins

Magic happens card - I can make stationery with this design too, in multiple colors
Owl with a monocol and a mustache  stationery - I can make cards with this design too.

And here's the colors you have to choose from (with gratuitous cat shot because she kept trying to sprawl on the paper):
