4531  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: HELP! I want to give this Illini purse as a gift. Is it good enough? on: August 25, 2009 06:20:02 PM
I think it's a lovely gift for an Illini fan. Smiley

I'm in the middle of my first "omg, how do I do this?" project. I know how you feel!

This is me tonight...

*wing...wing...growl...take out stitches...wing some more...continue ad nauseum until this thing is finished...*

4533  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: quilting with flannel? on: August 23, 2009 05:37:30 PM
I hadn't thought about using if for just the backing. Definite possibility there.

Thanks for the suggestion SimplySandy! Smiley

Thank you ladies for your comments. Smiley

I've taught all kinds of needlework and have never been afraid of using color, but I learned my lesson with crochet. I just bought the thread for my first scarf, a pretty, SOLID teal blue.

I have to wait until Tuesday to officially sign up but I'm most definitely into this swap!

I was bitten by the Holiday bug earlier this week. I wrote out my list and have decided to do a crafted item for everyone on my list. Smiley

This will be my first swap and I'm mega excited!

Those birds are too cute! Smiley
4537  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / my first real crochet project on: August 23, 2009 01:20:09 PM
It's nothing fancy but I'm proud of myself all the same.

I used single crochet and a really poor choice of thread. Varigated colors was not a wise choice for a first project for me, kind of rough on my eyes.

I don't have anyone local to give me pointers on how to improve so feel free to comment! Smiley

My next project will be a scarf for my mom's Christmas present.

Absolutely adorable! Smiley
4539  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Embroidery question on: August 23, 2009 09:36:48 AM
I can't get the link for the blanket to open. :/

As for the embroidery itself, you could do this easily with a split stitch. It's a stitch that is very easy to learn and handles little tight curves very well.

Are you going to do this in just black and white or are the roses going to be red? It would make a great contrast if you did.

I hope you share a pic of your finished product. Smiley
