111  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Poncho? on: April 10, 2005 05:40:00 AM
Okay, so maybe I'm reading the pattern wrong - should this increase?

Poncho:
Chain 34.
Row 1: 1 Double crochet in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across - 31 double crochet. Chain 3, turn.
Row 2: Skip first double crochet, 1 double crochet in each double crochet and in turning chain. Chain 3 turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 55 inches. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

This is Michael's Incredible Crochet Poncho, anyone ever make it?

I decided to make a poncho (I'm actually shooting for a poncho-ette) for my Mom for Mother's Day, but I'm a little confused by the pattern.  I'm 99.9% sure I'm reading the pattern right, but all it is a wicked long rectangle.  See:

I know I sew it up when I get to the right length, but how can this possibly become a poncho? Has anyone made a poncho like this? Am I just wasting yarn and time here?

I feel like at the end of it, I'm just going to have a long, pink scarf Smiley

I think you're thinking of Figment, which has the stationery so fabulous it makes me want to cry, run home and try to recreate it.

Hey there:

I wish I found this thread months ago! I moved to prov from Cambridge over six months ago, and still don't quite feel like it's home....I'd love to crash your meetings if you'd let me. I'm just a two-bit crochet-er though. I've been really wanting to meet other crafty ladies and have something like a Stitch n Bitch. So do you still meet on Wednesdays? What do you usually do? Share what you're making?

Thanks!

I got the pattern from one of those Leisure Arts pamphletty books, Lullaby Layettes. It's the Block Layette set. Surprisingly, the sweater didn't take me all that long - I found the pattern wicked speedy (especially after trying and failing with the Shell pattern a few times).

I guess it took me about a week, but I kinda put everything else in my life on hold. I'm a crochet-aholic; my friends are probably organizing the intervention now...

Though it looks a like a little Santa Claus-y I did it in Lions Brand baby Soft Melon and Creme.

I just finished this sweater for my niece.  I's the first project I've completed that I'm tragically proud of. It seems to be wearable and everything!

I want to make some Mary Jane booties to match, and a pair of pants or panties that can slide over her diaper. Does anyone know of good patterns for these? I'm hoping to complete it all by next week when I see her for Easter.

I Love this!  I am making it immediately.  Do you have the pattern??

Hi there:

I have a very flimsy hold on some basic crochet skills, but my friend has suckered me into giving her a tutorial on basic crocheting.  Any suggestions on a quick and easy project we could make?
