1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / My first mask since grade school- lots of pics on: October 04, 2010 01:18:48 PM
So last year I was re-wearing a store bought costume. So I decided it needed a little DIY, so I made a mask. The costume was a red and black "gown", so I made the mask black with red crystals.

Here's a pic. of the whole thing. It's attached to a ribbon wrapped dowel, with some ribbons hanging down.

This is relatively accurate to color. basically it's a plastic mask, decoupaged with black paper with a slight silver sheen.

You can kind of see the sheen in this one. I tried to get some wrinkles and rough edges to get a kind of worn, leathery look.

Side detail. The other side is done in the same way.

Here are the ends of the ribbons, I put the same crystals on each side to add a little weight and extra sparkle.

I wasn't sure if it was safe to use hot glue, so I attached the dowel with tacky glue and ribbon to add support. It's not the strongest ever, but it didn't fall apart.

I'm hoping to make another one this year to go with my costume.
Comments/suggestions are super welcome.
2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Suggestions for making a costume out of my prom dress on: June 30, 2010 03:44:06 PM
So really want to make a Halloween costume out of my prom dress, but I don't know what. I don't really want to do much to the actual dress, if anything at all. And Prom queen and princess are too obvious. I was think butterfly or fairy, but they seem obvious too. I would appreciate any suggestions you have. Here's the link to see the dress: [url]http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/ad104/Ink_A_Dink/DSC03284.jpg/[url]
