21  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / need some ideas/pictures of young boys/toddlers made of clay on: October 04, 2006 08:02:31 AM
My mother in law ame  to me yesterday staing she needs me to make out of clay  2 little boys. one about the age of 2yrs, the other around 4yrs old.

I don't have any pictures of them, she says they are blonde with blue eyes.  these would be going to  a lady who works with her.. not sure of the occasion ..
I can't do realistic  because 1. i suck at it and 2. i dunno what they look like anyway.

so anyone seen or know of some young boy clay characters I coul look at to get an idea of how to make them?
I made one boy so far  but i think i should start over.
the clay i used ended up being dirty a lil. And i have a very limited amount of colors.., i figured though i can use whatever color and paint over it. i painted his hair on and it looks  pretty bad lol.. maybe have to wash the paint off and add clay hair if i ecide to fix him up and  make him a keeper.
I started on the 2yr ol lil bro but then after taking the finished one out of the oven and sitting it next to the WIP, i saw that the 4yr may en up Bigger than the big brother ! lol..  may be able to salvage the bottom half though

geez i ramble on and on.

any links or pictures woul be appreciated.
22  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / something i wanna do on: October 04, 2006 07:55:31 AM
okay so i posted in he Bride's Tree topic under winter holidays and was giving some info about clay covered blown eggs and then it kinda drifted to the kinda where you leave spaces in the design and bake. then soak the egg in vinegar to dissolve the egg and you're left with a pretty shell.
I think i'm going to try that technique.. if i can find some  vinegar here. ( first time i saw that ,i had no vinegar to try it out)

and i read in The Glass Attic someone say soemthing about  filling the empty spots with TLS to kinda make a window or some sort of affect .. i want to try that too  but  if i fill all the spaces hiw will i pull out the softened egg bits? maybe i could leave a space open in the back.
Also  maybe pictures coul be glued to the inside behind the windows?

you guys should try this with me lol

I think i could do that with polymer clay .. just wouldn't be able to make it play music.

there are lots of posts there  of what they have actually made themselves and they'll usually tell you how they did it.  you may just have to  do some digging though to get the really good stuff.

here's an example of their crafytiness.. i ran across some threads about nodders.. Apparently they are using springs from mattresses and decorating them pretty and putting   something on top and voila a really cool "nodder" I'm guessing it sways or bounces or something when you touch it hehe.

24  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Wings for 5.5in clay doll ? on: September 12, 2006 06:41:34 PM
ok so I'll be getting a body mold in the mail soon  for a 5 and a half inch doll.
I'll be making polymer clay fairies .
I need some ideas for wings
tutorials, patterns, techniques  whatever you think may help
PS.. I'd much rather make amy brown type wings instead of butterfly looking wings And they need to be forgiving  ( not hard and easy to break by accident.. otherwise i'd just make them out of clay.)

I have some bendy thin floral wire sticks ( not covered or coated)
I thought maybe i could make some with panty hose .. don't have any hose but i could prob get a bunch at a thrift store if i could get my hubby to take me.

But other ideas are very welcome and  design ideas would be appreciated too
