21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / A bushel of felt christmas flower pins & recycled christmas card boxes on: December 15, 2008 06:14:40 AM
So this is what I made this weekend, I used my sizzix and cut out a bunch of different flower shapes in felt, layered them together, did some really simple stitching and put a button on each one, glued a pin back on and I got these:

close up:

There are 50 here (plus I made 16 more to send to my grandma for her to give out to her friends), I am going to give one to each lady at my work.
And then, I have had this bad problem saving every christmas card I have gotten over the past few years, well I managed to dent the supply a little and I made these to put the pins into:

and a close up
22  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Machine knitted baby blankets on: December 03, 2008 06:39:00 AM
So actually my friend did these on the knitting machine I picked up at an estate sale (for only $20), but I was about ready to throw the dam thing out the window, I am not a knitter (I am a crocheter) so I think you have to have a knitters mind set in order to use the knitting machine, anywho I digress....
So she whipped these out on Sunday, brought them to me and I put the crocheted shell border around them. They are small, perfect little reciveing blankets (or security snugglies), they are made with "i love this yarn" and are super soft. We are going to be in a craft show this weekend, we have 6 done total, here are two of the cuter ones

23  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Super easy black bean and corn salsa! on: November 17, 2008 07:23:23 AM
I really should take a pic, this was so easy and sooooo yummy
3 cans rotel (or any diced tomatos with chilis)
1 can corn (drained)
1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)
1 bunch green onions - chopped
1 clove garlic (or more if you like yours more garlicy)
1 handful cilantro -chopped (I love cilantro, so added a bunch)
1 tbs lime juice

mix, chill, serve - we ate it right away, but it tasted better after it sat in the fridge for a few hours.

26  UNITED STATES / Oklahoma / OKC - New Store Bad Grannys Bazaar and the House of Craft on: October 13, 2008 06:33:27 AM
Hey there everyone - I have been meaning to post this for a while,  there is a new place in the Plaza District called "Bad Grannies Bazaar and House of Craft" - the Bad Grannies side is an eclectic collection of crafters and artists, sharing all thier hand made goodies (along with an awesome group of people that have vintage and antiques, all at incredidle prices)
The House of Craft side is going to be craft and art workshops and on Thursday nights it is open craft night, for $3.00 per hour (dont quote me on that price and am almost positive that is the price) but that gives you access to all sorts of supplies and resources (sewing machines, segers, tons of craft books and some of the donated supplies)
check us out on myspace
www.myspace.com/badgrannysokc (ok, I cant go to myspace from work, so I may have the myspace wrong but you can go to my myspace  - myspace.com/bootyjcrochet and you can find it on there, when I get the correct link, I will edit this email, which you wont no I ever had the wrong link because I would have fixed it, eh what ever)
It is located next to the Lyric Theater in the historic plaza district OKC (NW 16th and Black Welder, from 23rd St turn south on Blackwelder - across from OCU, follow Blackwelder untill it ends on 16th St, and your there)
27  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / need help with a christmas poem on: October 08, 2008 01:39:21 PM
Maybe your a poet and dont even know it, ha, anyways, so I have been saving christmas cards from around my office for the past few years, I have HUNDREDS of them, every year I save them and every year everyone asks "what are you going to do with them"
so, this year I have decided to make pillow boxes from them
(like these
http://recyclemicol.vox.com/library/photo/6a00d41422ce3e6a4700e39898c8250003.html )
and fill them with candy, or I might make some pepermint bark or chocolate covered pretzels, the filling part is still a while away
anywho, I want attach a cutsie little poem to them, but I suck at writing
Here is what I have so far, if anyone has something they think would sound good, please let me know:

Over the past few years
I have been saving all the cards from friends and loved ones dear
many wondered "what is she going to do?",
with all those greetings that were mailed to you

that is all I have...I need something to the effect of
"filled with christmas joy..."
"filled with christmas treats...."
(anyone who helps me, I will send you some treats as well)
Thanks in advance
28  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gift for a music teacher? on: October 01, 2008 01:05:31 PM
I look all over this thread, and normally I am so good at thinking of something...
here is the back up story as to why I want to give her a gift. My son (13 years old, 8th grade) is both a football player and in vocal music. Well, for some reason, the schools decided to have a concert on the same night as a football game (I could go into a whole tangetn about how stupid that is, but I wont), understand, both are very important to him, the pricinple and the teacher both said that at first he couldnt play in the game because the concert counted as a grade, but I think his teacher saw how important both were to him and decided to let him sing the first few songs, then leave to go play in the game (he was doing some quick changing and running out to the game, where he made the second half and they won 16-0) he really likes his teacher and wants to give her something to thank her for letting him play in the game, he wanted to get her some flowers or a plant (isnt that sweet) but I said "no let me make something" now I am having a creative block on what to make, I can do just about anything. any ideas? anyone a music teacher that can think of something they would like.

30  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / hey spinners, help me figure out what kind of fiber this could be on: September 08, 2008 07:24:51 AM
OK, I was out treasure hunting this weekend (aka thrift store shopping) and I spot this HUGE spool of some sort of yarn on a shelf, I looked, smalled, and touched it and I couldnt figure out what is is, I am pretty sure it is some kind of animal fiber (although the thought has crossed my mind that it might be some sort of cheap twine, but I am pretty sure it isnt)
here is what the spool looks like

(the pic does not show how big it really is it is 12 inches tall  and weighs 5-6lbs)
and here is a swatch

i have tried felting the swatch to see what is does, but it hasnt done anything yet, I am going to try washing it a few more times
Anyone have any clues as to what they think it might be, or anyone know of a way to test to see if it is an animal fiber, synthetic, etc?
Oh and if anyone wants to know, it was only $5
