71  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: FYI - Tetanus booster! on: August 05, 2005 12:45:35 PM
The VFC program provides free immunizations for underinsured children, and because the government arranges those purchases, you don't have the availability issues that you do with adult vaccines (manufacturers don't make them if they won't be purchased, and they aren't purchased unless patients request/require them).

However, for a while now, the makers of the tetanus vaccine have refused to bid on the VFC contracts becasue of price caps on how much the government will pay for the vaccine.  So there have been availability problems for childrens' tetanus vaccine, too.

Tetanus isn't contagious, but it is often deadly, and there's no treatment for it, so boosters are a good thing, particularly if you travel to countries that don't have good sanitation.

72  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: DJing a wedding on: August 05, 2005 08:30:03 AM
Yes, find out from your friend if they have a wedding coordinator that will be coordinating the reception activities.  If not, find out from your friend what's happening at the reception and in what order, and make sure that you and the couple and the photographer are all on the same page in terms of timing.   The couple's arrival, fist dance(s), cake cutting, boquet and garter toss, toasts, departure, etc. will all need to have breaks in the music (or specific songs played), and the photographer will want to know when all of them are happening, so it's better if you agree on that to start with!
73  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Quick but fancy Hor d'eovres ideas? on: August 02, 2005 11:15:52 AM
Here's one I read about recently:

Asparagus spears, wrapped with a slice of prosciutto, brushed with a little olive oil and baked in a 450 oven for 15 minutes.
74  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: messenger bag with gusset tutorial on: June 22, 2005 07:06:16 AM
Actually, I think you would make it exactly the same way as a regular bag.  The bag I have right now is not reversible, but if you were to turn it inside out, the right side of the lining would be on the outside, which is what you want in a reversible bag.  The only trick is the closure, if you have one - there are some that  don't work well because the flap gets turned over when you reverse the bag.
75  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: redoing/painting bathroom...need help please (longish post, several images) on: June 10, 2005 07:39:27 AM
I've recommended this somewhere else as well, but mildew-resistant Killz is great stuff for painting bathrooms.
76  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: Renting, but PAINTING (OMG) on: June 03, 2005 11:30:21 AM
I will warn you.   I tried to re-paint a navy blue bathroom (don't paint really small rooms in dark colors - it just makes them look smaller), and it took two coats of Killz to get it light enough to re-paint light blue.  So that ended up being 2 coats of Killz and 2 coats of paint.   On the bright side, though, they do make a mildew-resistant Killz, which was great in a bathroom with no ventilation.
