11  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Butterfly Quilt (now with frog quilt too) on: July 04, 2010 02:38:36 AM
Here is something I whipped up for a friend who wanted something special to give to her neice.

Technically, I guess its a blanket rather than a quilt as it only has two layers - but it looks like a patchwork quilt!

I backed it with fleece so it was soft and cosy, the outside border was white fleece as well, the photo doesnt show this as I cropped it a bit too much  Embarrassed

I love it, and I'm making one in green with frogs now!

So I have a minor obsession with all things potato head related... even have the salt and pepper shakers!

I thought it might be fun to make some crafty potato stuff Cheesy

There are such great swaps happening right now, so I am thinking later in the year would be best

13  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Embroidered 'tag' blankie on: February 11, 2010 04:46:03 AM
I got asked to make something 'special' for a friend to give as a pressie. I've been meaning to try out one of these 'tag' blankets for ages so here it is!

Simple 12" fleece square - with embroidery - and 15mm ribbon 'tags'. Other side is pink fleece. I added the ric rac circle to kind of quilt it as I didnt want it looking like a cushion without stuffing Smiley

Best thing was it was made completely from scraps leftover from other projects yay!

I've been making baby blankets for a while now, and thought I might try something a little bit more challenging!

I made this cute bunny blankie for a friends daughter's first birthday. I added her name and a bit of embroidery to personalise and wa - la! Special baby gift!

Pattern is a McCalls Crafts one, no. 3061.

17  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Amigurumi Love Bug on: August 11, 2009 12:31:45 AM
I was a bit of an insomniac last night (always am a bit when my OH on night shift) and was having a look around craftster and found a link to this cute little "love bug" on someone's WIST. Here is the link to the pattern

http://tinascrochetpage.blogspot.com/2008/01/ami-love-bug.html

Had to make one! Here she is with my almost 7yo, who promptly claimed her after school today to "help with her homework"!!

The wings ended up a bit smaller than the original ( i blame the tiredness Smiley but not too bad for a first attempt, i think!

I find the projects on here very inspiring, thanks everyone for renewing my interest in crochet!

18  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Hand Quilt or Machine Quilt? on: July 13, 2009 12:10:11 AM
Im in the process of embroidering a quilt top, and still unsure whether to hand quilt it or do it by machine...

I have already drawn the quilting design on the fabric - think wholecloth pattern, just with a few butterflies thrown on for a bit of colour.

I do enjoy the hand quilting, but find that if I give someone an item that IS hand quilted, they tend not to use it and would rather keep it as an 'heirloom' etc.

The other option is to quilt by machine, prob a bit quicker and more chance the recipient would use it! BUT i tend to get puckers in my backing fabric and I spend a lot of time unpicking!

Any thoughts?

(here is link to photo - I'm still new here Smiley

19  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / what I've been working on lately on: July 12, 2009 01:43:29 AM
This is my first ever post on craftster, can't believe I haven't joined earlier!

I have been mainly doing cupcake quilts lately, made one then of course everybody wants one! The blocks are machine embroidered with 2 1/2" sashing in between.

(pictures are in my gallery)

The yellow/pink one features 'sunbonnet girls' in the corners and has a lavender outer border.

Im thinking I need a new subject, maybe butterflies!!
