1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Spinning wheel recommendation(s) for avid traveler on: November 20, 2009 11:04:45 PM
I am new to spinning (one class) and would like to purchase a spinning wheel. However, I currently live overseas, travel quite a bit, and will also soon be living on a sailboat for a couple of years, so size, weight and ease-of-assembly will be key. Recommendations for must-have accessories will be much appreciated.

Are there any wheels that might fit my needs? Thank you in advance for your responses!!
2  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Nuno felt with Korean silk? on: September 14, 2009 10:38:02 PM
Hello,

I purchased some Korean silk in a local market last weekend, and am getting ready to create a nuno felt scarf with it. However, I've not worked with this type of silk before and would love any advice that you may have to offer.

The silk has quite a loose weave, which is why I think it will be suitable for taking the wool, but it is also somewhat stiff. Perhaps close to organza in that way?

Advice, tips, all will be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Jill
3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Surface texture of finished felt on: July 11, 2009 05:33:04 AM
Hello,

I've noticed recently, after viewing hundreds of photos of finished felt items (mostly scarves, hats, and handbags), that the finished surface of each can vary greatly, from quite fuzzy, to very smooth with even a slight shine.

Can anyone tell me how to achieve the very smooth, slight shiny look?

Thank you!
